Belmont: Friday 10/16 Plays R9 - Pete's Picks
Nine races on this chilly Friday at Belmont. I will be condensing my plays down to just the numbers and attacking the early double (Races 1 & 2) and a spot pick 3 (Races 4-6). Big Pete will attack his "Play of the Day" and the late pick 3 (Races 7-9). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.

Race 3:
Mermaid will offer speed and Nickel Saver will try to close in late but I like (4) TWIRLY going out for the 2nd time with her new barn. She chased and closed in against similar last time and now the barn switches to Manny to seal the deal. They probably lose her to a claim today but that's the game they play.

Race 7:
(2) PAPA YO and Manny put on a show at the Spa two back to draw away nicely. Then they were an okay 3rd against slightly better. They now find a field they can handle and should be tough again as possible lone speed. If anyone challenges early, that opens it up for two stalkers. Both (1) MOE EIGHTY EIGHT and (5) WILLINTORISKITALL will need Papa to come back to them. I prefer Prat taking over for the Dutrow runner, so I'll lean a little more on that one.

Race 8:
(5) BOSUN and (6) NO EVIDENCE have been nose to nose in several races. It will come down to who gets the trip between these two. Both have some speed, and others may join in. This leads me to (1) FINAL VERDICT to sit chilly early and come and get them late. The extra distance should help him get there, as well as the extra pressure up front.

Race 9:
A wide-open finale. (1) COURSIERE and (3) BABY DANCER finished together at the wire, not that far out of it. Both will be a price and will save ground. (4) TWICE THE FUN was trying to close into a slow pace going shorter. With English Channel underneath, she wants more ground, which will help catch them late. (7) NAUGHTY NANCY and (10) MOM'S ON BREAK switch to the grass. Mom was moving well late in her debut and should do the same here today. Nancy faces NY breds for the first time and is bred to like the surface change.
