We have a fantastic day of racing this hot Summer day and we will be ready to cash in some tickets. We have the Haskell being run over at Monmouth, but the Spa is still the summer place to be. I will locked in to the early double (Races 1-2) and taking down a spot pick 3 (Races 6-8). Big Pete will have his "Plays of the Day" as well as taking down the late pick 3 (Races 9-11). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK
Little Pete's $3.00 Early Double:
R1: 2, 5, 7, 9
R2: 7
Cost: $12.00
Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:
R6: 8
R7: 1, 2, 6, 9
R8: 3, 4, 6, 7
Cost: $16.00
Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:
R9: 2, 7
R10: 3, 4, 5, 7
R11: 3, 6, 8, 10
Cost: $ 36.00
Little Pete's Early Double:
Race 1:
(2) Really Good has the inside position and the early speed to find a nice rail position. This should save some energy for an impressive stretch drive. (5) Coach Petro is going to show speed throughout and could have enough to wire this field. (7) Activist Investing looks to be another impressive horse for the Chad Brown barn on grass; must play in here. (9) Reckoning will run well in here to the outside and I think will be aggressively ridden by Johnny V early.
$3.00 WPS 7 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 7,9 w/ 2,5,7,9 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 2,9 w/ 2,5,7,9 Cost: $6.00
Race 2:
The big scratch of (6) Pirate Life makes this a one horse race for me. I will be taking the chalk with (7) Brazillionaire.
$20.00 WIN 7 Cost: $20.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 3:
Breakfastatbonnies will show speed and force the favorite, Repealing to work for it early. That should help set up (3) JANE GREY to come grab this late. She broke her maiden at the Spa in 2020 and was laid up for two years. She got back to the track and was a buzz that day but had to settle for 2nd to a Mischievous Diane who was very good that day. She now gets Luis in the saddle and better odds. If she stays at this 7:2 ML she’ll be worth this weeks pay check to triple it.
(4) Breakfastatbonnies and (6) Repealing look solid underneath.
$ 7.00 WPS 3 Cost $ 21.00
$ 7.00 Exacta 3 w/ 4, 6 Cost $ 14.00
We’ll also use (3) Jane Grey in R3 and try to crash in on a DAILY DOUBLE play.
We’ll use likely favorite (3) Wings Like Eagles and (6) Veronica Greene in the 4th.
$ 7.00 Double 3 w/ 3, 6 Cost $ 14.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 4:
Pletcher is in a zone right now on these big days and his (3) NEST returns to face the girls. She’ll have to deal with the Oaks winner today but she looks to have improved in the Belmont facing the big boys. We’ll try to beat Secret Oath for the 2nd place slot. The Gun Runner filly, (2) Society is possible lone speed and make forget to stop. (4) Nostalgic likes to come late and pass tiring fillies. We’ll put those two underneath.
$ 10.00 Exacta 3 w/ 2, 4 Cost $ 20.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 6:
Strong opinion alert! I am going to single the Chad Brown horse, (8) Phelpsy, in here after the impressive win in Friday’s 1st race with his stablemate Appraise. Irad will have plenty of speed in here and will look to shoot to the lead and not look back. With Jack Christopher running in the Haskell, I am all in on Chad Brown having a HUGE day today.
$5.00 WPS 8 Cost: $15.00
Race 7:
(6) Quick Power Nap is going to be my top play in here under Tyler Gaffaloine. This horse is going to find a nice rail position early and wait for the lane to open late to show the patented Clement close. (2) Tough Street looks like the play in here to go on par with my Chad Brown day. Irad will have this horse sitting right behind the pace and wait for the lane to really show this horse off. (1) Queen of Lies who finished in front of my top pick and I think the post position and the running style will make this horse a threat throughout. (9) Royal Dancer is dropping in class and if she runs to her last race then we should expect this horse finish either first or second.
$3.00 WPS 6 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 2,6 w/ 1,2,6,9 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 1,9 w/ 1,2,6,9 Cost: $6.00
Race 8:
(7) Highly Respected gets back to the 6 furlongs where he broke his maiden and this horse is going to be a monster in here. (6) Under Oath is another horse who has plenty of ability and should produce well against winners. (4) Favorite Outlaw can run for days and Tyler will show that off early. We should expect this horse to run fast and far. (3) Prisoner is another speed I like to improve from the disaster that was last race. We need to give this horse another chance, especially with that bullet workout coming in.
$3.00 WPS 7 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 6,7 w/ 3,4,6,7 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 3,4 w/ 3,4,6,7 Cost: $6.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 9:
(7) STAGE RAIDER may be a single for most players in this late Pk3. Brown and Irad just missed at the this level in the last two races. His speed figures are better than these and will be odds on to get the job done. We have to use but I want to where him down with a plodder that will like this 9F stroll. (2) THE REDS started his career facing the better 3yr olds out there. The connections got aggressive and put him up against G3 material. He did ok until something went wrong and they put him on the shelf. This Tonalist has slowly worked himself back for another go at it. He was beaten soundly by Stage Raider in their last but that was a one turn mile and not this guy gets two turns and a cozy spot on the rail. Alvarado is riding well with only a few Spa starts.
$ 7.00 WPS 2 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 2, 7 w/ 2, 3, 7 Cost $ 12.00
Race 10:
(3) STAR DEVINE was idling for some parts of the stretch behind Caravel before mounting a charge that was too late. I’ll give Johnny V a second shot at making it right in this G3 Caress. Similar tactics sitting right behind the speeds should work in his favor as there is plenty of speed to set her up. Last years Caress winner came via the Goldwood Stakes in New Jersey. This years winner of that race was (4) BOUT TIME. I like his chances with the addition of Saez and her stalking style. (5) TOBYS HEART got off in a tangle when facing a few of these in the Intercontinental. She managed to be a non threatening three lengths behind. She can make up that distance with a clean break today. The wise girl pick is long shot (7) LADY EDITH. She raced evenly with Star Devine and found a seam mid stretch to make a run. If she can work out a better trip, this 12:1ML becomes very interesting.
$ 7.00 WPS 4 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 3, 4 w/ 3, 4, 5, 7 Cost $ 18.00
Race 11:
Most will navigate to Irad with the Maker gelding (8) CATCH THAT PARTY. He was claimed two back and ran a decent 4th at this level. Practice Squad, who he finished right behind last time, return this week to beat a heavy favorite in the Violette turf race. He’s your most likely winner today. (3) MOPED DENNIS tried turf for the first time and liked it. He is the wild card in here as it was his best race of his career and should improve off that with distance. The favorite looks tough, but I have to give this 10:1ML a shot to strut his stuff. The two Flintshires will be on my ticket. (6) TOPIC CHANGER showed a little bit of daddy’s kick through the stretch breaking his maiden late June. He bred top and bottom to be a good one on the turf. (10) LORD FLINTSHIRE has developed a pattern of liking 2nd. This may prefer the slight cut back and jockey switch.
