Saratoga 8/7 Pick 3 Plays

We have made it to the weekend and have a nice Friday card at the Spa! We have ourselves a nice ten race card on this Traver's eve; which is headlined by the Grade 2 Saratoga Special presented by Miller lite. I think this race was offered to the fans to come up with the name of this. If so, could've been a little more creative with it (But who am I to judge?). We are going to remain consistent and take down a pair of pick 3 plays today. I will be focusing in on races 5-7, while Big Pete will be focusing in on races 8-10. We were one race short in each of our plays yesterday, but the vertical plays helped us net out positive. Little Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 2:

I think that (6) Cotton is the horse to beat here after running a fantastic second after a brushed gate start first time out. Mark Casse is a great trainer who just hasn't had the luck on the course as of yet. I think this is a great opportunity to have a horse come underneath and have a nice paying exacta. (1) Cobra Kai has a hell of a name and connections in here; which I think Jeremiah will have this horse running very well in here. (4) Sandor Clegane should be able to handle this race first time out and show some excellent closing ability late. (8) Seven Seven is going to be my last inclusion here as I think the workouts show this horse to be live.

Race 3:

A short field for this 1M 35K Claiming event and there figures to be two heavy favorites that will take most of the action. Sun Summers and Bean Counter both won their last race facing NW2L. Now they move up to the NW3L level. I’ll try to beat them with (8) CAPE COD DIVA She’s been sprinting lately but today, gets to stretch her legs. She’s been facing slightly better on the turf. Her June 11th sprint was her best effort and a Re-Pete of that will make her tough here.

Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:

Race 5:

I landed on three horses in this one. I have my speed horse in (7) Skamania who is cutting back in distance and has been training consistently well. I like Tyler Gaffalione aboard to search for the early lead or sit right behind (1) Bridlewood Cat or (4) Kept True, and then have a good stretch drive. The early speed to me is going to be something I will try and play off of. I think that both the Ortiz brothers have some proven closers at this level and will have a say as to who wins this one. (2) Honor Way is well suited to run at this 6 1/2 furlong distance, especially with Jose Ortiz hopping aboard again. Jose knows how to handle this horse with multiple wins already on him. (3) Fair Regis is in very good form and has been just missing the winner's circle. Rob Atras has had a great showing at Saratoga and the recent form of this horse signals to me she is going to run a big race.

Race 6: UPDATED W/ ADDITIONAL SCRATCHES

(7) Mad Maddy has the speed and experience to get it done fourth time out here and a must play to me. (10) Credit Enhancement from the Klaravich Stables barn looks to be a stud here and could be the next big Chad Brown horse, so will be playing. (8) Army Wife is from the Mike Maker barn and he just has been executing on all cylinders. He had a two year old yesterday run a fantastic second place and anticipate the same from this one. (3) TappingInToSuccess is a price horse here who I think has a big chance of running a big race first time out from the Michael Trombetta barn. The horse is training well and the trainer has some good numbers with horses first time out. To close out the ticket I am including the Wesley Ward firster in (2) Factoire. He always seems to have his firsters ready to win first time and with an aggressive ride from Dylan Davis we can anticipate a big run.

Race 7:

I had a pretty strong opinion in this one on a price horse in (4) Stay Fond; the scratch hurts me physically. (1) Lady by Choice and (3) Archumybaby are two horses exiting the same race where I thought they showed enough to perform well in this one. I will be excluding the (2) Queen Kahen in this spot even though she is also exiting the same race, because I just do not like recent form. I love Luis Saez back aboard the (3) Archumybaby to give this horse a perfect trip behind the early speed and have enough horse to challenge for this one. (1) Lady by Choice is a similar closer who I think will have a ground saving trip from Jose Ortiz and be a contender late. With the scratch, I am going to add in (5) Daria's Angel who has the class to handle a decently fast pace in this one and stay up there to possibly hit the wire first. I like the two closers mentioned to get this done, but in case they run out of track in this one I will include the top speed horse I like.

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 8:

I don’t see a ton of speed entered here so I’ll focus on (2) TATTERAZZI who should make her way to the front. She moves back in against NY Breds and with the addition of Saez, she will be tough to be pass through the stretch. (5) GIACOSA broke her maiden two back and followed it up with a solid run facing winners for the first time. If Gaff can keep her close to the leaders, she may be the danger late. Worth noting, Franco opts for the rail horse instead of sticking here. (7) JEN’S BATTLE has been sprinting her whole career and now tries to go a little longer than she’s used to. If Rosario can get her to relax early, he can get her that extra furlong to be a contender.

Race 9:

The G2 Special is the feature race today and I’ll focus on the two outside runners. With the scratch of the Roderick, (9) THERIDEOFALIFETIME may be able out break this group and I’m guessing Jose will take advantage of that. He’s bred to go longer so if he outbreaks them and maintains a safe distance, he will be tough to pass. (10) JACKIE’S WARRIOR beat Lifetime when they both debuted at Churchill. This is one of two Amussen runners that will take a lot of action. Stable jock chooses the favorite so Rosario subs in. It’s worth noting Rosario choose this one over a Clement runner. He’s been right this meet so I’m expecting a big effort from them. (6) CAZADERO makes “Sense” as he dusted fellow 2 year olds in the G3 event in his last. He meets a tougher group today but, he hasn’t done anything wrong as he is two for two.

Race 10:

I’ll let Brown’s runner take all the money here, but this isn’t a good sign when he offers up his runners in a MCL race first time out. That’s usually damaged goods. Not sure why Ward has two entered here as both seem to NEED the lead?? That said, I’m swinging for the fences and focusing on two runners that are a combined 0 for 31. That’s how bad this field looks. (5) DIPPING IN drops in for a tag and finally gets a jockey who can win. O’Neill is in search of his first win so calls on Rosario to time it right. The other closer (1) JASMINESQUE also takes the necessary drop and cuts back in distance. She hits the board often but has never finished first. The class relief is what she needs so a clean trip gives her a shot here. (2) TILSA will be forced to gun to the lead from the inside draw and most likely has company. If Castellano can clear, she’ll be dangerous but I’m expecting a hot pace for my two closers to come late.
