We are off the turf today at Saratoga with the first race being cancelled; which makes the first post time to be 1:21 pm eastern. We are seeing on Twitter that the main track is in pretty good condition, which is great news. We are going to stay consistent and remain playing a pair of pick 3 plays and our "Play of the Day." I will be focusing in on races 5-7, and Big Pete will be focusing in on races 8-10. Make sure to subscribe to the newsletter to receive notification of new blog posts and a weekly blog emailed to you. GOOD LUCK.

Race 6:

I fell in love again with a horse that I am covering in my Pick 3 play. (3) Playwright looks great in this position for me as I am mentally playing this race out to be competitive early; which sets up this closer perfectly. I think Manny is going to place this horse right behind the early speed and have plenty of horse to take down this field. I think this race poses as a good one to bet vertically and horizontally. I will be spending ~$30 on this horse in this spot:

$4.00 WPS 3 Cost: $12.00

$4.00 Ex 3 w/ 4,5 Cost: $8.00

$4.00 DOUBLE 3 w/ 1,5 Cost: $8.00

Race 5:

The card looks very chalky to me as we’re void of turf racing today. I’ll try to cash in on a price in this NYS Maiden sprint. Handal has been enjoying the summer here and sends out (9) ROSSA VELOCE. She’s been out working most in the mornings which makes her attractive at 6:1 ML. Jose must see the same thing as he jumps aboard. The final turn comes quick in this 5.5F dash but she seems quick enough to clear off and control it from go.

$7.00 WPS 9 Cost: $21.00

I’ll also fool around with some vertical plays using her with: 3, 5, & 7

Race 5:

I am going with five in here to start off the pick 3. I really like the outside horse in the (9) Rossa Veloce who has a bullet 4 furlong workout coming in and is bred to excel with some moisture in the ground. I think the Jose Ortiz influence will allow this horse to be a player throughout the race and have a say as to who wins this one. (5) Summer Front is also another firster that is interesting in here for me. Manny has a daughter of Summer Front and should be able to handle a wet track. (6) No Mo' Spending has one race under her belt and experience is crucial in races like this, so will also include. (7) Big Time Lady has been training very well leading up to this one, but would classify this horse as my third or fourth selection. I do not like the pedigree on this horse to win first time out, but Irad Ortiz is addicting to winning. My price play here that I feel good about is the inside horse of (1) Lil Thirsty. I love this horse getting the inside position and is bred to win first time out on a wet track being sired from the Stay Thirsty lineage. I think this horse will be bet down significantly from the 15-1 price, and if she is not then I am hammering a WPS on this horse.

$4.00 WPS 1 Cost: $12.00

$1.00 Ex 1,5,9 w/ 1,5,6,7,9 Cost: $12.00

Race 6:

Big scratch in here with (1A) I Love Jaxson, which shakes this race up a bit for me. I have a strong opinion in here on the other Linda Rice horse in (3) Playwright. I think this horse will love the early pace from (5) Control Group and enjoy the extra furlong in here. I am throwing out the last start with the stumbled break and this horse won two in a row with some good time fractions at a mile. Linda Rice is also very successful first out after a claim and all of these signs are pointing to play this horse for me. I will include (5) Control Group in case no one challenges early and lets this horse dictate the fractions. I will also throw in the combo of Rosario/Clement in here with (4) Doups Point, but I really think we should bet to beat this horse. I think this price will get money thrown at him for the connections alone.

$5.00 WPS 3 Cost: $15.00

$4.00 Ex 3 w/ 4,5 Cost: $8.00

$2.00 Ex 4,5 w/ 3,4,5 Cost: $8.00

Race 7:

Irad has a live firster in here, (1) Black Magic Woman, from the Pletcher barn and I think will be able to get it done here. This daughter of Uncle Mo looks to be like a three year old that we will have to pay attention to and this race could be the stepping stone to big things. I did single a horse on my last leg on Sunday and hit the ticket, but I do not nearly feel as comfortable to do that here. I will include Irad's brother who is aboard the (5) Harlem Heights who ran a big beyer number at this distance last time out and should improve. This horse could have enough to graduate in this one. There are other good horses in here, but I think trusting the brothers to close is all we need to cash this ticket.

$5.00 Ex Box 1,5 Cost: $10.00

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 8:

I’ll focus on the two runners exiting the July 11th Belmont race. (8) HAN SENSE was caught wide for most of the trip but still managed to only miss by a length. He’s faced better in prior races but will have to work out a trip from the outside post and the first turn comes quick. I’ll look for (6) SUPER DUDE to turn the tables today. Maker is clicking right now and there’s also Irad. Dude will let the pace develop in front of him as several should be going at it. Irad will then give him a nudge to go. Santana was able to wake up (2) INTREPID HEART last time and gets another crack at it. Something went wrong last summer, so it’s a good sign that he came back last race to post the win. Asking a lot against this group today but, Pletcher is having a good meet as well.

$7.00 WPS 6 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 6,8 w/ 2,6,8 Cost: $12.00

Race 9:

It’s hard to leave out the remaining runners here as the three turf runners have run ok on the dirt before. The lone dirt runner (3) ESPRESSO SHOT is a cut below these but moves up on the surface switch. (2) TRAIPSING is bred to handle dirt so with Clement and Rosario teaming up, I’ll guess these guys will take a lot of action today and should be right there. (5) KREESIE will try the dirt but seems to prefer 2nd or 3rd. So that leaves (6) FOXTAIL who has 2 wins on the dirt. I’ll include them all.

$3.00 Ex 2,6 w/ 2,3,6 Cost: $12.00

Race 10:

The 9F is key in this MCL 40k event for fillies and Mares. Most are not built to go this far. We’ll trust the breeding to help us out here. (9) BEYOND BROWN will be a handful today. Although Big Brown won the Derby, she gets her dirt influence from an Unbridled Mare. The drop is hard to look past as this gal may be short odds but is most likely your winner. (6) ADORABLE MAYA should be able to run all day. She prefers grass but, dad was a super star on the dirt. She’ll sit back just off the pace and come late. I’ll focus on both of these getting it done.

$7.00 WPS 9 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 6,9 w/ 2,5,6,9 Cost: $18.00
