We have a great 11 race card ahead of us at Saratoga with four of those being graded stake races. We are regrouped and refreshed today, and ready to cash some tickets. I will be focusing in on races 6-8, and Big Pete will be focusing in on races 9-11. Little Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 1:
Luis Saez takes no prisoners and has the horse, (7) Enough Love, to put on the lead and not look back. I think this horse gets to the lead in the mud and allows the horses behind to find the cleanest trip to pass; which I do not see happening. I will hammer a WPS on this horse and hope we can get a price underneath.
$7.00 WPS 7 Cost: $21.00
$5.00 Ex 7 w/ 2,4,6 Cost: $15.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 4:
Small field in this 6.5F claimer so the odds won’t be great, but the entry looks very solid here. The (1A) TIED UP shipped in to score last time beating her new stable mate (1) RADIANTRITHYM and guessing will use the same tactics and gun to the lead. Davis chooses this one over the slop loving (4) STAY FOND. Look for Radiant to turn the table on Tied Up as she too likes the moisture. We’ll put the entry on top and look for the two outsiders to put in late runs to grab the place. (3) CHEATEM HILL and (6) ANNIE ROCKS will offer a scare to the top two.
$10.00 Ex 1/1A w/ 3,6 Cost: $20.00
$3.00 Ex 3,6 w/ 1,3,6 Cost: $12.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 6:
We have a bunch of babies in this one and landed on four of them. (1) Newbomb looks to be a stud in the Pletcher barn and the workouts show this horse is ready to run and run big first time out. (4) Highly Motivated is coming out of the Chad Brown barn and also putting up consistently well run workouts and will be included. (5) Founder is my top play in here being the stablemate of (4) Highly Motivated and getting the nod from Jose Ortiz to run. (10) HappyMac is the son of Runhappy and has the winning combination of Asmussen/Santana Jr. This horse has been training consistently well and looks to be live.
$3.00 WPS 5 Cost: $9.00
$1.00 Ex 1,4,5,10 Cost: $12.00
Race 7:
I landed on the two inside horses in the Grade 2 Amsterdam. I did not like the race that the three horses were exiting in the Gold Fever on July 10th and going to try and beat. (2) Yaupon has everything I look for in a horse even with his inexperience on the track. This horse has done nothing but improve in his two career starts and looks to be a sprinting specialist. This horse is going to be very tough to beat here and a must play in my opinion. (1) Basin is undefeated at Saratoga and this time out not running in to a horse to the likes of Nadal, Charlatan, or Art Collector. This horse is cutting back in distance and should have the perfect trip under Jose Ortiz.
$3.00 Ex 1,2 w/ 1,2,3,6 Cost: $18.00
Race 8:
The Grade 1 Forego is going to be a fantastic race to watch, but a tough race to pick the winner. Each of these horses has a case to win this one, so I am going to include way too many of them. (4) Funny Guy is coming in winning two in a row and looks to like the Saratoga track. Has Rosario abord for the third time and looks to be a strong contender in here. (2) Whitmore has the red hot Saez aboard and ran a big race against Volatile last time out and looks to be live here. (6) Complexity looks to be a horse that Chad has held in his back pocket for this spot and training extremely well leading in to this one. I think this horse is going to be sent to the lead and not look back on this muddy track. (10) Mind Control also put in a great effort against Volatile last time out and looks to be similarly live with (2) Whitmore. My two closers in here are going to be (3) Lexitonian and (10) Fortin Hill. Both of these horses will be able to sit right behind the lead and show off the late speed.
$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 4,6 w/ 2,3,4,6,10,11 Cost: $20.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 9:
G1 Sword Dancer kicks off this late Pk3. Maker has three in here and we’ll try to beat them. (8) SADLER’S JOY is having a great summer. He returned in June to rattle off two 3rd place finishes and a “win”. He just missed winning this race last year and looks to Re-Pete that effort today. Look for Castellano to avenge his DQ and set him straight for the wire. (5) CORELLI is interesting here. He too has run well this year and finished well last time when receiving L1. Now he attracts Rosario who likely will try to get first jump on JOY and try to hold on. With these tight turns on the inner, this usually is a winning move at the Spa. (2) AQUAPHOBIA beat Corelli last time and should give that one fits today too. Similar tactics to get clear before Joy comes into the picture.
$7.00 WPS 8 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 5,8 w/ 2,5,7,8 Cost: $18.00
Race 10:
Brown and Pletcher will headline this MSW sprinting event. (5) ZAINALARAB has some fast works under her belt to help get her ready for this career debut. Irad breaks from the middle of the pack and will see what develops on each side. Her stable mate (2) ALWAYS CARINA worked the same 47 and change with Zain on 8/23 so it looks like both can run. Pletcher is back and taking Johnny V for the ride on (3) JOUSTER and should offer a challenge to the uncoupled entry. If any moisture is left over, move this one up. The one I want is (8) SPUN D’ETAT. This gal has put together two nice efforts just missing in her last. No one is riding better then Saez right now and this is where he lands and so will I.
$7.00 WPS 8 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 5,8 w/ 2,3,5,8 Cost: $18.00
Race 11:
State breds close out the card and (3) ELOQUENT SPEAKER will look to control this one up front. The cut back to 6.5F will make this one tough to catch if left alone. (6) FLASHPACKINBARBIE will keep Speaker company as this one has also shown some speed. Was a good 2nd to similar last time as Franco returns for Abreu. I will try to catch both with (12) STRETCHTHESTORY. She’s faced much better fillies last year and has worked herself back into shape with two turf sprints. Baker saw something and claimed her and she rewarded with a 47 flat bullet. Look for her to be flying through the stretch at a decent price. I’m all in at 12:1.
