We are quickly approaching the end of the Saratoga meet and that has always felt like the end of summer, but does 2020 really have seasons? We are looking to close out this meet with some cashed tickets and will remain consistent with our pick 3 plays. We also will have our "Play of the Day" to try and maximize a race that we see up for the taking. Make sure to subscribe to the newsletter to receive notification of new blog posts and a weekly email. GOOD LUCK.

Race 2 - 6:

I am going to be aggressive on this Wednesday afternoon and play the early Pick 5. Big Pete and I have some opinions in some of the legs, so going to go out on a limb. I would like to beat (5) Snicket in race 2 and Big Pete has a strong opinion on the (5) Setting the Mood in race 3. I will then use the remainder of my pick 3 play to cover this ticket. Why not live a little for a $16 ticket?

$0.50 Early Pick 5:

R2: 1, 6

R3: 5

R4: 2, 4, 6, 8

R5: 3, 9

R6: 3, 5

Cost: $16.00

Race 3:

There’s only five entered here with the highest ML at 4:1. That’s where I’ll land as (5) SETTING THE MOOD is a 3 year old facing all 4 year old fillies. She improved last time against similar and is bred to go long. The other 4 have had double digit starts in search of their 2nd win which may never come. Pletcher attracts Jose for this lightly raced filly who makes the trip north while training down state.

Race 4:

In total I landed on four horses in the first leg of this pick 3. My top selection in here is going to be an improved effort from the (6) Bold Article. This horse has been training well and I am going to assume the performance will improve with the surface change. This horse outperformed the morning line favorite, (2) Dash to the Top, in the morning workout on 8/16/20. I am going to use that as my signal that this horse is in better form and ready to run a big race on dirt. I will also include that favorite,(2) Dash to the Top, who ran a consistent race first time out and we should anticipate an improved effort second time out. (8) Who Knows What is another horse that showed enough to me first time out to get a play here. Irad hops aboard and is battling his brother for the riding title and looks to have the better horse in this one. My last play will be the firster in (4) Katies Courage who has been training consistently and put a bullet workout at 5 furlongs on 8/14/20; I will be expecting this horse to be sent to the early lead and that could be the winning spot in this maiden claiming race.

$3.00 WPS 6 Cost: $9.00

$1.00 Ex 2,4,6,8 Cost: $12.00

Race 5:

As much as I would love to try and beat (3) ChecksandBalances and (9) Kitten's Romance, I just can't find the horse in this field. I know the horses exiting the same race as these two horses look to have been very close to them throughout, I just see that as turf racing. The lengths beaten by is not as relevant unless you get beat by significant furlongs from the leader. I just can't put any of the horses exiting the same race as these two on my ticket. (4) Dipping In is 0 for 11 in the win column and Doug O'Neil has been having a tough time at the Spa, so this horse is being thrown out in here for me. One horse that does interest me in here is the firster from the Michelle Nevin barn in (8) Karley O. This horse has a pair of bullet workouts leading in and could find herself on the early lead. I just think it will be tough first time out to beat the other two, so will leave off the ticket but play for exacta.

$3.00 Ex 3,9 w/ 3,7,8,9 Cost: $18.00

Race 6:

The problem I have handicapping this race is that a lot of these horses need to be forwardly placed in order to win this one. I landed on three in here, but may be smart to look at the field if you were looking to invest some money on a broken race due to speed. (3) Assume is fresh off the claim from the Mike Maker barn who has had a hell of a meet and looks to have a strong contender in this $20K claiming race. This horse will be sent to the early lead or right behind it under the direction of Irad and if she runs to her last race then this horse should take this one. (1) She's a Black Belt is getting significant class relief in this one and also will be sent to the front early. This horse should be live in here and will get a play from me. My last play is going to be the horse Irad chose to leave in the (5) Charlotte Webley. This horse has shown great improvement on the track each time out and I think is very dangerous in this position.

$3.00 WPS 5 Cost: $9.00

$2.00 Ex Box 1,3,5 Cost: $12.00

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 7:

There’s a ton of speed entered and (8) MAVEN may be the fastest. Irad will try to get a breather with this Pharoah but I see many in here gunning to the front. The closers are where I will turn. (5) OLD CHESTNUT will look to give Casse his first Spa victory as he will be coming late. He’s put together two solid late runs this summer and seems primed to fire 3rd time out.. (2) FLAP JACK is another who will bide his time mid pack and let the speeds back up to him.

$7.00 WPS 5 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 2,5 w/ 2,5,8,9 Cost: $18.00

Race 8:

Brown will be tough to beat in here as he drops (4) BLOWOUT from a G3 at Kee to this Opt Claiming event. The 1M distance is best for her front running style and may lead them all the way. The other is (5) CATCH A BID who gets Irad back and has a win and second at the Spa last year. She looks to be the main danger to her stable mate. I’ll only use these two. (3) CLARA PEETERS finished ahead of Catch A Bid last time and should be closing in through the stretch.

$7.00 WPS 4 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 4,5 w/ 3,4,5 Cost: $12.00

Race 9:

I’ll use four to close it out but I have to put a few bucks on (7) DIAL ME UP switching to the turf. Improved off the layoff and has speed to control up front. Irad returns and this guy may get lost in the betting. (8) LET THEM EAT CAKE came on strong last time when she got back on the turf. Look for Rosario to do the same here. Saez shows up on (1) BOMBSHELL and gets L1 for her turf debut. She is your wise guy play here as Luis is hitting on all cylinders. First time starter (3) ADMAA is Brown and Jose so they will attract some action at the window. Has a couple of fast works so she probably can run.

$7.00 WPS 7 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 7,8 w/ 1,3,7,8 Cost: $18.00
