We have a nice nine race card today at Saratoga; which is headlined by the Grade 1 Diana in the eighth. We are going to remain consistent as always and attack a pair of pick 3 plays. We will also have our "Play of the Day" to try and maximize some winnings in races we see hittable. I am going to key in on races 4-6, while Big Pete will be keyed in on races 7-9. Little Pete's $1.00 Spot Pick 3:
R4: 2, 8
R5: 5, 6, 7
R6: 1, 2, 5, 6
Cost: $24.00
Big Pete's $1.00 Late Pick 3:
R7: 1, 2, 3, 7
R8: 3, 5, 6
R9: 2, 3, 5, 6
Cost: $48.00
Little Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 1:
Pletcher vs. Brown; Irad vs. Jose. We have the leading jockeys and trainers battling it out in this one and I think one of them will win this one, so I think we have a nice exacta in here. (5) Uptown Flirt should improve from first time out and I am playing to hit the board. (1) Community Adjusted looks from the workouts to be stalking from behind and the coveted Rosario stretch drive should make this horse a play as well to hit the board. I also like Brad Cox/Castellano running it back on (4) Caldee and should show improvement this time out.
$2.00 Ex 3,6 w/ 1,3,4,5,6 Cost: $16.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 2:
We will keep this one (5) MR “SHORT AND SIMPLE”. Rudy got aggressive with this colt throwing him in against much better (Max Player, Art Collector and even Creed) He also went long with him. Now he puts him where he belongs and gets back to sprinting. There’s plenty of speed for Manny to sit back early and wait for them to back up to him.
$10.00 WPS 5 Cost: $30.00
I’ll use him with (2) Victory Boulevard and (3) Wicksters Dream underneath
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 4:
(2) No Salt has had money thrown at him every time that he has raced and today will be no different. If this horse runs to his Tonalist pedigree, then there will be no one in this field that could take him. It looks like he has figured himself out a bit in his short career and we should anticipate a big run from him and must include. In case we have some gate issues or performance issues again this time out, I will include the steady outside horse in (8) Bielefeld. This horse breaks well from the gate, but has not shown the sustainability to give a closing effort late. This horse has been training fast and going to assume the move back to grass after having four races under his belt will allow him to run a big race in here.
$2.00 Ex 2,8 w/ 2,4,7,8 Cost: $12.00
Race 5:
I am expecting an early battle in this 9 furlong race between (2) Unrelenting and (4) Six Percent, which sets up the race to the three horses on the outside in my opinion. I also think that (1) Quiet Out East is going to be pushed towards the lead early and exposes him to some stronger horses late, so will not include. (7) Cold Hard Cash looks to be in good form and Jose Ortiz knows what he has underneath him. This horse should enjoy the stretch out and most likely be the strongest horse down the stretch. The other Linda Rice horse is also a player here in the (7) Too Early. This horse broke his maiden last time out at this distance and did it in stalking position. I think this race will set up well for a similar trip and could make it two in a row. My last play is (5) Six Percent who has ran well at this level and should be able to sit a little further off the lead this time out and challenge for the wire down the stretch.
$3.00 WPS 7 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 5,6,7 Cost: $12.00
Race 6:
I am going to close the ticket with four horses here, as this is all of the plays I could possibly rationalize winning this one. (1) Towering Gaze has the speed you look for in these turf sprints and should be able to get this one down, but the level makes we worried that this horse could be vulnerable. (2) High School Crush has Tyler Gaffalione aboard again for this trip and I think he is one of the best turf riders in the world; which means we should expect a great trip on this horse and could get it done at this level. (5) Silent Empress had a tough trip last time out with Rosario aboard, but we should all expect a much better one in here. The combo remains deadly at the meet and should be on the ticket. Last horse will be the other David Donk horse in (6) Mia Bea Star. This horse doesn't jump off the page at me, but the combo scares me to leave off the last leg of the ticket.
$3.00 WPS 2 Cost: $9.00
$1.00 Ex Box 1,2,5,6 Cost: $12.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 7:
(7) MOUNT TRAVERS has faced some tough foes in both 2020 starts and seems to have found the right group to make some noise. He was best of 18 in his Aug 10th workout which should set him up nicely. Jose will stalk outside and come with his run. The “other” Rice (1) BIG ENGINE has been solid as well in his three NYRA sprints. The only difference is that they were against NY Breds. Stable jock makes you think this guy will run well today. The one I’ll take a stab with is (2) LONE ROCK. This gelding has been chasing some heavy hitters, Firenze, Anthem and even Lone Sailer earlier this year. Tried to go long, now finally cuts back to a sprint. Almost caught Pete last time and looks to be back in form with the new barn. I’ll put this one on top as all systems go here. I know, I know, why not Pete’s Play Call??? He looks over his head against these.
$7.00 WPS 2 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 2,7 w/ 1,2,3,7 Cost: $18.00
Race 8:
(3) RUSHING FALLS is as good as they get. She just keeps winning. She’ll have to deal with (6) MEAN MARY up front today. Both are comfortable when on the lead so something as to give here. Saez is in a zone right now so I would give the advantage to Mary. The one that won’t mind the speeds going at it is (5) SISTERCHARLIE. She couldn’t catch Starship last time off the layoff and the shorter distance. She gets 9F today and figures to be a little more on her toes with that race under her belt. She has a nose for the wire and so does Johnny V.
$7.00 WPS 5 Cost: $21.00
$5.00 Ex 5,6 w/ 3,5,6 Cost: $20.00
Race 9:
Both favorites are a must use to as they have faster times than the rest of these MCL runners. (3) ALLIED INVASION ran lights out for a barn and rider that was winning lots of races a few weeks ago. They cooled off a bit so I’ll try to beat them. The other fav (6) AINTITFUNKYNOW had lots of trouble when dropped to this level but didn’t do any running after he gathered himself. We’ll use, but this one smells funny to me. I’ll lean on (2) RINGGOOD to come late and spoil the party. Donk is hot right now and this guy returns to the turf where he belongs. He faced MSW both times on grass, one being against open company. Now drops to NYS MCL fellas and attracts Jose. (5) NERO’S FIDDLE will try to make some music late too. He also had some trouble last time but settled down to grab 4th. The jock switch makes this guy hard to leave off the ticket.
