I am kind of surprised to only see a nine race card today with the first race being a Steeple race. We are headlined today by the Bolton Landing in the eighth; which looks to be a highly competitive two year old group of fillies (Good luck, Big Pete). We are going to remain focused on hitting a pair of pick 3 plays, as well as our "Play of the Day." We will look to begin our week off with some additional money in the bankroll and carry the momentum through the week. Race 2:
Let's take a risk in the second race here with the two year old fillies. I really like the outside horse in (6) Sassy Belle who is being sent out from the John Kimmel barn and they are having a pretty good meet. He hasn't been as consistent with first time starters, but the dirt sprint numbers are very good. I am looking at the consistent workouts this horse has been doing almost weekly and you can see some improvement each time out. I think this horse will be ready to run and have a strong chance of winning this one.
$4.00 WPS 6 Cost: $12.00
$3.00 Ex 6 w/ 3,4,5 Cost: $9.00

Race 4:
A lot of focus will be on Hoffenhiem and Curlin Grey in this 12K race going long. That’s fine with me as I’ll look to beat them with (5) STREET TRUST. He tried better last time when facing Malibu Pro who returned to win next out. Now drops slightly and can handle this one lap around the Spa oval. Carmouche may keep him close early and try to wear these cheap claimers late. The 6:1 seems right.
$10.00 WPS 5 Cost: $30.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 4:
This six horse field has been scratched down to four horses now. In my opinion, this is the kind of race you single a horse or you take the field. I do not have a strong enough opinion on any of these horses to single, so field it is. I also think this is where we focus on just a WPS in this one and hope the three other horses just decide not to run. The horse I am going to key is the (6) Curlin Grey, who showed a good showing on the Saratoga dirt on 8/2/20. I think that having Saez aboard again will greatly benefit this horse to find the winner's circle. This horse is going to be forwardly placed and should be ready for a stretch battle with the other competitor's.
$5.00 WPS 6 Cost: $15.00
Race 5:
I am anticipating (5) Mcerin and (7) Abiding Star should engage in an early battle up front, which pushes me to look elsewhere for some late closers. These inner turf 1 1/16th mile races are all about jockey placement, so this is the reason I am spreading just a little. An early speed battle would set up (8) Financial System well to have the coveted close that Chad Brown has continuously displayed with his horses. I am just a little weary as to why he wouldn't move this horse back up to allowance company. Maybe just to collect a check and a win towards the trainers standings? The horse that I really like in this position is (1A) Zero Gravity who bobbled out of the gate last time out against (8) Financial System and will improve this time out. The outside post position will allow this horse to break without congestion and be able to follow the lead of the (8) in the early part of the race. Plus, you get a bonus horse in the (1) Another who also has some late speed that I would be looking for in this one. My last play is going to be the workout warrior in (4) Golden Decision. I think that the move to Rosario will make a big difference in how this horse is placed throughout the trip and has shown speed in previous races that should translate well in to this one.
$3.00 WPS 1 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 1,4,8 Cost: $12.00
Race 6:
I like four in here to close our ticket. (4) Joyous Times is going to be my top selection in here with the move back to Luis Saez to get this horse to the early lead or right behind it. I think that this horse has shown great ability against winners and was just beat at the wire last time out. I think with a more aggressive ride from Saez will play all the difference in here. (9) Balon Rose has that late Chad Brown speed and should be charging late in here and will make my ticket. (1) Rivendell just broke her maiden first time out with an 85 beyer speed and looks like the daughter of Lemon Drop Kid wants to stretch out. This horse could be a handful to this field and is a play for me. My last play is going to be (7) Kitten by the Sea who has fought and grinded her way back from claiming fields and is ascending at this moment. Jose Ortiz knows how to win with horses that are training and running well, so will have to be on my ticket.
$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 1,4,7,9 Cost: $24.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 7:
I’ll focus on the two lightly raced geldings to start off this Pk3 sequence. Unfortunately, they are the favorites. (1) GOLANI BRIGADE won easy last month in a fast time. He faces winners for the first time but he’s been working fast and looks poised to Re-Pete. (2) BLACKJACK DAVEY cuts back to the one turn 7F sprint. That’s what this Posse wants to do. Irad had a choice and he ends up here on Davey. These two will be a handful as the rest of these have had many chances at this level. (5) QUICKFLASH has been as consistent as they come. Tough break last time put him in the back. That’s not his game so a clean break will be a must. May find himself alone up front and then anything is possible. We’ll include.
$7.00 WPS 1 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 1,2 w/ 1,2,5 Cost: $12.00
Race 8:
(6) TOBY’S HEART was very impressive in her debut and will be short odds to do it again. Back to back 47.80 breezes were faster than all runners on both of those days shows that she still is razor sharp. (2) JOY’S ROCKET is two for two and didn’t mind the synthetic surface last time. That indicates that she may like the grass and being an Anthony’s Cross should confirm that. They will have to catch this gal for the win. (5) SASSY HANNAH is a first time starter with a potent pedigree and some serious works to make this 12;1 shot worth a second look.
$3.00 Ex Box 2,5,6 Cost: $18.00
Race 9:
MCL NY Breds going the 1M to close it out. (5) EIGHTY SEVEN NORTH and (9) BROVIA exit the same race and the 3rd place finisher returned to win next out. Both will be coming late. I’ll side with Saez and Brovia to out kick Davis close to home. The one I’m interested in is (10) LITTLE RED BUTTON on the stretch out. She closed nicely in both her turf sprints but is bred to go longer. This gal is making her 2nd trip to the Spa from Jersey this meet so her connections must be confident in her run.
