Happy Whitney day everyone! We have ourselves a five stakes race day; which is headlined by the Grade 1 Whitney in the 9th. We should all expect some big pools in each of these twelve races, so lets make sure we get involved early and build a bankroll. We are going to stick to our pick 3 plays and both of our "Play of the Day." I will be focusing in on races 7-9, while Big Pete will be focusing in on races 10-12. Make sure to subscribe to the newsletter to receive notification of new blog posts and weekly blogs sent directly to your email. GOOD LUCK.

How can we not ride the hot hand of Rosario here at this mile and a 1/16th race on turf with the (1) Allied Invasion. This maiden claiming race is set up perfectly for Rosario to have his horse do the patented close down the stretch to take this one. The horse has been training extremely well, and the lack of winners in here just makes this horse even more interesting for me.

A lot of money will show up on the two favorites here. Brown has (2) Mister Winston who I will take a stand against. I didn't like the group he lost to and needs to do better. (7) Everfast exits a G1 race but is 1 for 18 lifetime. They both can win but the odds are not what you want. I’m keying on (6) STAGE LEFT to step up and run back to his 2020 debut race last month. He was much the best in that race and Ward gave him a strong breeze last week for this. There should be a hot pace the for him to close into and he proved he can handle the 7F and the Spa dirt with a win last year. Oh yea, he also gets Jose up. I’m looking for more than is 4:1 ML with the two studs, I mean duds, above taking all the action.

$7.00 WPS 6 Cost: $21.00

Race 7:

I am looking to start off the first leg with a possible price horses. This maiden special weight race is going to be an exciting one and the winner is most likely going to win by no more than a length. This is the reason that I am going to start by going six deep in here and hope the longest price horse comes in. (10) Habitus is stretching out in this one and showed great closing speed against a young promising horse in Fauci last time out. I think the second time out on grass will greatly benefit this horse and has the jockey I want aboard right now in Luis Saez. (2) Explain has the connections and the workouts leading in to have me think this horse will be live here. (6) ShawdyShawdyShawdy has some great and consistent workouts coming in and I think will be a player first time out; plus, such a great name for Johnnie I to call this one. (7) King of Miami is going to be the post time favorite and lost to another Wesley Ward horse last time out on a muddy track. I think the horse should translate well to the grass, but don't want to throw all my money at this one. (8) Modern Science has the tactical Joel Rosario aboard and I hate losing to his late charges to win by a neck, plus the horse showed some talent first time out and should only improve. (9) Berhanu looks to be bred for grass and I think will be a strong player in here.

$3.00 WPS 10 Cost: $9.00

$1.00 Ex 7,8,10 w/ 2,6,7,8,9,10 Cost: $15.00

Race 8:

I think that this race is set up to be a two horse race with the early speed this race possesses. I think it opens the race up to the two strongest players in here and to their individual strength of closing. (7) Amano and (8) Reigning Spirit are looking on paper to me to be too tough in this one. I just think horses will battle too much early to get to the coveted front position from the gate, but just run out of gas and these two horses come rushing by.

$5.00 Ex Box 7,8 Cost: $10.00

Race 9:

I have one very strong opinion in this one and that is that I am not a (4) Mr. Buff fan. I think that he will be a factor in this one as I think that Junior Alvarado will push this horse to the lead no matter what it may take. This is why I am going to spread here with the rest of the field, because I think that there will be some stubborn horses in here; which could expose them to an "upset." It is tough to call this race "upset" worthy because it is a five horse field, which is just aggravating. I will be including the remaining four horses in my pick 3 play, but I am leaning on Irad to get this one done on (2) Improbable.

$5.00 WPS 2 Cost: $15.00

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 10:

There is plenty of speed entered for this G1 Jerkens. The 7F sprint is very demanding especially for young 3yrs. I’m leaning heavy on the closers in this one. (11) TAP IT TO WIN is bred for 7F and beyond. Guessing Johnny’s instructions will be to sit behind the speeds and come with his run around the turn. His one turn Belmont score, on June 4th, wins this going away. It’s worth noting that TAP won here last year breaking his maiden. The other stalker/closer and Spa winner (8) THREE TECHNIQUE. Has yet to lose at 7F and re-unites with Jose. He may be farther behind than Tap early, so they need to work out a trip and make his move a little earlier. (6) NO PAROLE and (4) ECHO TOWN are the speeds to worry about. If either can shake loose, they can be a handful up front. I’ll use defensively but focus on the top two to come and get them.

$7.00 WPS 11 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 8,11 w/ 4,6,8,11 Cost: $18.00

Race 11:

(2) CROSS BORDER put on a show last time. Granted, it wasn’t against this caliber of runners but he did it with ease. He can stalk or go so the break will probably decide that. These sharp turns will keep the closers at a disadvantage so first run may prove the winning move. The old timer (6) SADLER’S JOY woke up last time to just miss the G1 Manhattan. Castellano may need to stay closer than usual to give him a chance at catching the speeds. I’ll include the longshot (3) HIGHLAND SKY as this vet also woke up last time being only a nose behind Joy. Jr is a little more familiar with this guy and will try it again. Rosario has twice guided (4) DOT MATRIX to two photo finishes coming up just short. He’s going good right now so we’ll include.

$7.00 WPS 2 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 2,4 w/ 2,3,4,6 Cost: $18.00

Race 12:

(7) DALIKA has two strong outing in 2020 and seems fit to score here with a best work of 31 on July 24th. Stall convinces Rosario to jump off the Clement runner here. This can be your single if you prefer to spread in the previous races. All systems go. I’ll include two savers that are prices incase the fav has some trouble. (8) SARATOGA TREASURE has kept good company lately and seems headed in the right direction. She has a strong late kick so, if she can stay out of trouble, she can pass them all. (3) SWEET BYE AND BYE has three big beyers that make her a player here. She hasn’t sprinted in a while but that doesn’t mean she can’t. IMO, she is the main danger to the favorite.

$7.00 WPS 3 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 3,7 w/ 3,4,7,8 Cost: $18.00
