We have ourselves a 10 race card at Saratoga and we are going to look to cash in a pair of pick 3 plays. I will be focusing on races 5-7, while Big Pete will be focusing on races 8-10. We will have some vertical action in each as well. We are getting baseball back, which is just another step in the right direction. Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 5:
This race is set up for (4) Ahead of Plan to break his maiden. I think with an aggressive ride from Jose Ortiz, this horse should be able to hold off the competition down the stretch. I don't feel as confident here with a single here, so will spread out a little bit. (7) Instinctive Rhythm is a firster that is set up well to sit behind the speed in this one and close well to try and take this one; which makes this horse a play for me. I like (2) O'Trouble, but I am going to look elsewhere. I think this horse will engage in an early battle for the pace and tire out towards the wire. If he beats me, then good for him. (3) New Frontier will get another chance for me with the switch to Gaffalione. He is back to his prefered surface of dirt and should be able to stalk the lead in the pocket to see what he has left down the stretch. My last play is Irad Ortiz/Todd Pletcher connections in (6) Irish Front. This race has shaped up to be a jockey's race for me, and I think leaving Irad off your ticket in a competitive race is just foolish.
$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 4,7 w/ 2,3,4,7 Cost: $12.00
Race 6:
(1) Balon Rose should have a ground saving trip around the turn and be placed out wide to charge convincingly to the wire and is a must play. The oldest in the group, (5) Bareeqa, is two for three in 2020 and looks to be in great form right now. I love the speed this horse possesses and I think this horse will be forwardly placed and challenge the closers behind her to catch her. (8) Simplicity has the winning connections on grass with Rosario/Clement and could be live first time out in the states. Really only able to rely on the workouts and they are consistent and am going to trust the connections. (9) Kitten By The Sea is jumping up in class and I think that will play well for this horse. Always love a claimer to allowance horse, and I think Jose will be able to put this horse in the best spot to win this one.
$3.00 WPS 9 Cost: $9.00
$1.00 Ex Box 1,5,8,9 Cost: $12.00
Race 7:
(3) Fierce Lady is running in to a beatable field and is the class here, so is going to make my ticket. (10) Bertranda is the other logical choice here for me with the recent form this horse has shown and coming in with a bullet workout. Then for my price play in the last leg I am going to take a closer in (12) Bustin to Please. This horse has been jumping between claiming and allowance, and doing nothing but be consistent. Manny gets the mount again and he knows what he has underneath him. He should be able to stalk this lead and charge well to try and hit the wire first.
$3.00 WPS 12 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 3,10,12 Cost: $12.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 8:
The three favorites unfortunately look solid here. Brown has (4) FRENCH REEF cutting back to 5.5F distance and will likely try to control right from the start. If he clears the rail horse, he’ll be tough to catch. (3) UNION COLONEL almost got there two back when sprinting on the turf. If Reef isn’t ready, He’ll be a blur through the stretch. (9) IT’S A WRAP woke up when switched to this surface. Manny will see everything develop to his left and then try to time it right.
$5.00 Ex 3,4 w/ 3,4,9 Cost: $20.00
Race 9:
Castellano seems to bring out the best of (4) HONEST MISCHIEF. He’ll target the speeds and tip out for the stretch drive. No match to a good one last time but, may have needed one. (1) WENDELL FONG will take a lot of money because he finished a few lengths from Whitmore in his last two. I’ll use defensively but, prefer (6) CAPTAIN SCOTTY as my 2nd choice. He has the speed to control this early and then try to hold off the fav late. Miller ships him East to try and steal a check. (2) BON RAISON will offer a rally late. Sometimes he sneaks into the exacta to offer some value. The 6.5F suits him.
$3.00 Ex 4,6 w/ 1,2,4,6 Cost: $18.00
Race 10:
Major drop for (11) FINANCIALSTABILITY after a dull effort and Brown wants out. He’s damaged goods to me so I’ll lean on others to close it out. (3) DEPUTY FLAG likes to finish 2nd so the drop makes sense. Irad gives him one more shot so I will too. (8) NO LIME has a win on this track and has shown some quick works leading up to his 2020 debut. Jr returns for Mott and is the horse to beat here. I’ll include (4) MANDATORY PAYOUT and (5) I SAW IT ALL for some value play as these two always try and eventually will find the right field.
