New York Showcase day at Saratoga on this Traver's Eve! We have (6) NY Stakes races today which is headlined by the Albany in the 9th. We are going to look to cover as many races as we can and build that bankroll heading into tomorrow. I will be attacking the early double (Races 1 & 2) and a spot pick 3 that starts the pick 6 sequence (Races 6-8). Big Pete will be playing a couple of "Plays of the Day" as well as the late pick 3 (Races 9-11). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.
Little Pete's $ 2.00 Early Double:
R1: 2, 4, 10
R2: 2, 3, 6 Cost: $ 18.00
Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:
R6: 7, 8
R7: 3, 5, 9
R8: 2, 3, 7, 8 Cost: $ 24.00
Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:
R9: 2, 5, 7
R10: 2, 3, 4, 6
R11: 4, 7, 8, 12 Cost: $ 48.00
Little Pete's $2.00 Early Double:
Race 1:
No surprises here as (4) Surprise Boss will likely go off the favorite as this War Pass finally gets on the TURF. He's run well enough on the dirt but is meant for the grass. (10) Open Til Midnight ran well in his debut. The outside post is a concern but if Lezcano can save some ground somehow, he'll be a threat late.
$ 3.00 Exacta Box 2, 4, 10 Cost $ 18.00
Race 2:
(3) November Rein was impressive 2nd time out. She figures to sit behind the rail runner and tip out for the stretch drive. The 6.5F should help the Asmussen runner (6) Velvet Sister. I'm not sure what happened last time but her June debut would have beaten these fillies. I'm guessing she finds that race again with the added distance.
$ 3.00 Exacta Box 2, 3, 6 Cost $ 18.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 3:
The money will show up on (7) Barrage and rightfully so. It's Saez and Gargan and they're dropping in class. But the one that interest me is (2) UMBRIA. He switched to the turf last time and liked it. He was a little keyed up behind horses last time as Johnny V couldn't settle him. A little more time with Rice to work that out and this guy looks live today.
$ 7.00 WPS 2 Cost $ 21.00
$ 7.00 Exacta 2 w/ 4, 6 Cost $ 14.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 4:
I'm interested in a price in this Funny Cide. (4) WHO HOO THATS ME is still a maiden but exits a fast race won by (8) Daufuskie Island. Who Hoo didn't get away cleanly in that one but still managed to threaten before tiring. This Keen Ice wants more ground and figures to get a hot pace this time to soften up the bunch. Abreu switches to Santana.
$ 7.00 WPS 4 Cost $ 21.00
$ 7.00 Exacta 4 w/ 7, 8 Cost $ 14.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 6:
(7) I'm Fine has been off for 5 months but her workouts look fast and well spotted. She was the bridesmaid three times in a row before going on the shelf. This Blame filly cuts back to the 7F distance which was her best race recorded back in December. (8) Bustin Bay is fresh off the claim after closing late to just miss last time out. Franco returns for the new connections.
$ 3.00 Exacta Box 4, 7, 8 Cost $ 18.00
Race 7:
(9) Make Mischief has been facing much better this year and now moves back in against fellow NY Breds. She's 2 for 2 against them and looks battle tested for this. (5) A Bit O'Irish Sass has speed and Saez. If she's allowed to catch a breather down the back stretch, she can take them all the way. With Betsy scratching out, I'll use (3) Byhubbyhellomoney as a savor. She's an Effinex so the distance won't be an issue and Rosario subs in.
$ 3.00 Exacta Box 3, 5, 9 Cost $ 18.00
Race 8:
(2) Rinaldi will be in front. The question is will he be alone? The others don't have his speed and that's going to be a problem for them if he dictates the fractions. (3) Graded On A Curve was on a pretty good roll to end the year. Now he emerges 8 months later in this spot. I can't leave off the ticket a Brown usually shows up in these spots. I like (8) Mo Ready in this spot. Prat takes the mount as this Uncle Mo ran his best race last time against Forty Under and a Re-Pete of that should be enough today. has been improving. (7) City Man was closing behind Mo in that race but may have been too far back. Look for them to be a little closer this time out.
$ 3.00 Exacta 3, 8 w/ 2, 3, 7, 8 Cost $ 18.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 9:
Favorite (2) AMERICANREVOLTION is 2 for 2 vs fellow NY Breds. It’s Pletcher/Saez and he’s working well. A lot to like and a must use. (7) JOEY LOOSE LIPS ran big first time off the claim while stretching out. That’s what this Effinex wants to do so the 9F today is a good fit. We can’t forget about (5) OUR MAN MIKE. He finished behind Joey last time tracking a slow pace. More speed entered here today which will work to his advantage today.
$ 7.00 WPS 8 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 2, 8 w/ 2, 4, 7, 8 Cost $ 18.00
Race 10:
(3) MYHARTBLONGSTODADY will be a short price as she returns to face NY Breds. Her last three attempts though, were very dull ( IMO ) and I have to try and beat her. (2) CLASSIC LADY has one race this year and was 3rd in this race last year. The connections can have her ready and there are races in her pp’s that make her the one to beat. I’ll try to beat them both with (6) CHOCOLATE COOKIE. This will be her 3rd race at this meet and has improved every time out so far. The 6:1 ML may be a little high but even half of that would be a gift. (4) GIACOSA has also been improving every time out this year and beat Cookie last time. If Bond wasn’t so cold, I would consider putting this one on top.
$ 7.00 WPS 6 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 2, 6 w/ 2, 3, 4, 6 Cost $ 18.00
Race 11:
Anything Cox sends out this meet has to be included. 18 of 32 in the money as (7) WAR NOVEL also drops in for a tag. The switch to turf should also help and Rosario takes the call. (8) FAST GORDON almost got there on the drop last time. Both attempts at this level have resulted in two 2nd place finishes at the shortest of margins. Maybe he hangs on today. (4) LAY ON MACDUFF is an English Channel firster, out of a Whywhywhy mare. Englehart is quietly having a meet and Cancel jumps off the scratched favorite to ride this one. Most of these will be career maidens so Macduff may have found the right field today. In a race with a lot of question marks, I feel I need to take a shot with this 15:1 ML. (12) BRENNAN'S WAR has two solid runs at this level as Weaver normally saves a couple of live ones for the end of the meet.
