Thursday racing in Saratoga and we have a medley of plays. We will be taking down the "Early Double" for races 2 & 3, a spot pick 3 (Races 5-7), and the late pick 3 (Races 8-10). Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 4:
NW3L are always a crap shoot as they are stuck on 2 wins in their career and starting to wonder if they will ever win again. Donk sometimes gets too aggressive with his stock and puts them were they don't belong. Now that we're at the Spa, everyone just wants a win here. ( I don't blame them ). He drops (1) COURAGEOUS GIRL for a tag today and reaches out to Jose for some help. I think the 7F will work in her favor as the rest of this bunch will start hitting the wall at 5.5F. Saving ground on the rail should turn out to be the winning move for this girl.
$ 7.00 WPS 1 Cost $ 21.00
$ 7.00 Exacta 1 w/ 4, 5 Cost $ 14.00
We’ll also use (1) Courageous Girl in R4 and try to crash in on a DAILY DOUBLE play.
We’ll use Lil Pete’s picks (4) Expand The Map and (10) Pizza Bianca in the 5th.
$ 7.00 Double 1 w/ 4, 10 Cost $ 14.00
Little Pete's "Early" Double:
Race 2:
I am going to commit myself to one horse in the first leg and invest my money on (7) Recidivist. I think this horse has the most upside and a better trip in here should make this horse a strong player late. I think we will be able to get a relatively nice price on this horse and carry that over to cash in on the double.
$ 5.00 WPS 7 Cost: $15.00
Race 3:
There are a lot of desparate trainers in here that are dropping their runners in search of a check and to move some inventory out. Both entries scratched down to one, (1) Viradia and (2) Sirenic, and both drop the most. Scary yes, but they have run races that beat this bunch so we'll include, The Ortiz brothers should handle this field but I'll throw in the improving filly (5) Persian Queen as a savor. Davis has two 2nd place finishes with her recently and the extra distance may be what she needs.
$ 3.00 Ex Box 1, 2, 5 Cost: $ 18.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 5:
The two Chad Brown horses are a must play on grass in here with (1) Fishers and (4) Expand the Map. Both of these horses will be able to handle the distance and run their best late. There's a lot of chatter on the Irish bred "Map", but they both are training well for their debut. Clement also a pair in here. (10) Pizza Bianca gets stable rider Rosario so we'll lean on this one a little more than (2) Bali Belle. Both have win early and grass breeding.
$2.00 Ex 1,4 w/ 1, 2, 4,10 Cost: $ 12.00
Race 6:
Another bunch of maiden horses in here with me leaning on four in here. (3) Derrynane has the connections and the training sessions to make this horse a great play in here. (6) Enjoy Summer is a horse that I really like to handle the grass well and be forwardly placed in here. (7) Quick Power Nap is a horse I will include as some coverage as Jose Ortiz is looking to get hot headed into the weekend. (9) Rooski is my top play in here who will be able to draft behind some early pace in here and fan out wide and run down the field late.
$3.00 WPS 9 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 3,9 w/ 3,6,7,9 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 6,7 w/ 3,6,7,9 Cost: $6.00
Race 7:
I am all in on (6) QuantitativeBreezin in here. The Brad Cox barn is heating up right now and should be the speed in here. Manny will be aggressive and I think that is what will win him the race. I will include (8) My Alluring Lady and (9) Traffic Lane in here as some insurance. Both of these horses will be forwardly placed and running well late.
$3.00 WPS 6 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 6,8,9 Cost: $12.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 8:
There are two main characters in this marathon 11F turf event, (5) LOVELY LUCKY has a resume that makes her tough to beat. But most of that happened last year. She returned in Jan and wasn’t the same mare. If she’s right, she’ll be a handful but I don’t trust her and we’ll use defensively. (6) MIA MARTINA is on the improve, but she now moves to the big leagues. She’s a little competitive out of town but now has to face some tough old mares and try to get this distance. Irad helps but that also brings the price down. I landed on the Noda runner (3) HERE COMES JACKIE. She has been facing weaker but her last two runs a very promising. Noda claimed her two back and she rewarded him with her best race yet. Two bullets followed that and I’m guessing she ready for this suspect bunch. .
$ 7.00 WPS 3 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 3, 6 w/ 2, 3, 5, 6 Cost $ 18.00
Race 9:
(1A) PLAYED HARD just broke her maiden, but did it rather easily. It was the first time she stretched out and that seems to be her game. She gets the 9F today and I’m guessing she forgets to stop again. Gaff returns and she has her entry mate to back her up if she can’t hold on. (3) ICE PRINCESS tried grass and now returns to the dirt. She has some races in her pocket that stack up well in here. Irad stays with her and they just missed the Fleet Indian last year at his 9F distances. She looks strong here. The wise guy pick for me is (5) PORTILLA. She won in her debut, beating Played Hard, and followed that up with a decent 4th when facing winners for the first time. Saez teams up with Stall as she is bred top & bottom to excel at today’s distance. I’m looking for this gal to run them down close to home.
$ 7.00 WPS 5 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 3, 5 w/ 1, 2, 3, 5 Cost $ 18.00
Race 10:
The Point Of Entry filly, (12) STELLA MARS finally showed up on the turf last time and almost got there. That was also first time Rosario. They look poised to break their maiden with clear sailing from the outside post. But is it too far out there for this 5.5F sprint? (5) UNDETECTABLE is a different filly on grass as she showed speed last time and couldn’t last. The cut back seems perfect and there’s not a lot of speed signed on. She’ll offer decent odds to take a shot with. The other danger is (2) ORMA. She gets the upgrade with Saez and has shown some closing ability in all of her races. She’ll sit behind the front runners and try to wear them down late. I’ll swing for the fence and play (6) FASTELLE on top. She dropped to this level and tried turf again last time. It worked as she found her footing through the stretch after a tardy start. If she can get a clean break, she’s fast enough to stalk or go if Cancel wants.
$ 7.00 WPS 6 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 2, 6 w/ 2, 5, 6, 12 Cost $ 18.00
