We have (9) races today at Belmont and we are looking to cover the entire card. I will be locked into the early double and a spot pick 3 that starts the pick 6 sequence (Races 4-6). Big Pete will have his "Play of the Day" on race 3 and the late pick 3 (Races 7-9). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.
Little Pete's $2.00 Early Double:
R1: 1, 3, 5
R2: 2, 3, 8 Cost: $18.00
Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:
R4: 2, 3, 4, 7
R5: 2, 9, 10
R6: 1, 6, 7, 10 Cost: $48.00
Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:
R7: 3, 5
R8: 4, 7, 8, 13
R9: 1, 5, 6, 8 Cost: $ 32.00
Little Pete's $2.00 Early Double:
Race 1:
(1) Casalsa has the rail position and coming in with a wire to wire win at Saratoga. This horse is going to be my top play with Saez choosing to ride again and going against a beatable field. (3) Golani Brigade has early speed to stalk in second throughout and trust Dylan Davis to find the inside rail late to creep up throughout in this one. (5) El Sobrevivente will be sent towards the lead and Kendrick could work out the trip to compete in wiring the field in here with the (1) Casalsa.
$3.00 WPS 1 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 1,3,5 Cost: $12.00
Race 2:
(2) Street Vendor just missed first time out and should improve this time out. It will be difficult to try and bet against this horse as Rosario should be able to time a nice late run against a field of youth. (8) Flip the Script will get a forwardly placed race in here and could pay off late if left alone. This horse has some racing experience in his past and should improve with a firm surface. (3) Fort Washington is a "Play the hot hand" play. Lezcano is raking in W's and gets a horse training well coming into this one.
$3.00 Ex Box 2,3,8 Cost: $18.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 3:
(1) MAHAAMEL will have the advantage as there is not a lot of speed from the other four entered. Chowda is cheap speed and Johnny V might sit behind or go if he gets a clean and quick break. I won't try to beat him as the others will be trying to close into a slow pace. I'll look for (2) Full Court Press to pass the others for a minor exacta.
$ 15.00 Exacta 1 w/ 2 Cost $ 15.00
I'll also try to cash in on a Daily Double play using (1) Mahaamel in the 3rd with Lil Pete's top picks:
(2) Outrageous Bet and (7) Boru in the 4th
$ 7.00 Daily Double 1 w/ 2, 7 Cost $ 14.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 4:
(2) Outrageous Bet is going to have the rail position and be well poised for a late run down the stretch under Jose Ortiz. (3) Vettori Kin is a horse that will show early speed and will pay off late with an aggressive ride throughout. I trust this horse to be able to fight off foes late. (7) Boru is going to be screaming down the lane and trust Dylan Davis to find that path. (4) Rocking The Boat finally tries the turf. This Arch has been competative on the dirt and drops a level or two. He's fresh off the Martin claim and is a juicy 8:1ML.
$3.00 WPS 2 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 2, 7 w/ 2, 3, 4, 7 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 3, 4 w/ 2, 3, 4, 7 Cost: $6.00
Race 5:
Taking a stand in this one and trusting (9) Juggler to get this one. Irad should be able to wait for the moment to let this horse stretch his legs out late and my top selection. I will be hedging with (10) Kingham Hill from the David Donk barn switching surfaces and him having success with this move and (2) Sir John with those bullet workouts and post position.
$3.00 WPS 9 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 2,9,10 Cost: $12.00
Race 6:
Two Mike Makers with Irad and Saez? I'll take it! (6) Turn of Events is going to be closing strong and I'm expect Jose Ortiz to be aggressive early to get this horse in position to run past tiring horses. (7) Determined Fury is stretching out a bit and Rosario/Clement are deadly on this surface; must play. (10) Montatham gets Johnny V who will be aggressive from the gate and force horses to keep up. I trust him to bully others in here and have a chance to wire the field.
$2.00 Ex 1,10 w/ 1,6,7,10 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 6,7 w/ 1,6,7,10 Cost: $6.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 7:
I don’t think (5) BLITZ TO WIN wants to go long but the problem last time may have been the two turns at the Spa. This 1M distance with one turn should be within his ability and sports a fast bullet last week. Castellano is off to a good start to boot so we’re reluctant to leave this guy off our ticket. (3) V PATTERN stretches out and he’s bred to go long. After almost a year off between starts, it’s good news that the connections are not dropping for an easier spot. They must feel confident that L1 will help as well as Saez first time. A lot to like as these two should decide it.
$ 7.00 WPS 3 Cost $ 21.00
$ 5.00 Ex 3, 5 w/ 3, 4, 5 Cost $ 20.00
Race 8:
(8) TIS A PITY figures to attract a lot of attentions with Clement/Rosario teaming up. She was left with too much to do trying to close in at 5.5F on that Spa blacktop. She’ll get to stretch her legs out at Belmont and most likely find an easier path home. I like (13) BLAME IT ON MARY getting back on the grass. Her best race has come on Belmont turf and figures to stalk and stay clear of traffic breaking from the outside post. (4) KREESA LA WROTE has picked up her game since moving to the Spa. Jose takes over and she has some fast finishes that stack up well against this bunch. I’ll include (7) JAMAICA JOY because she’ll be a price. She should speed going long last time and then gave it up. In a race with not much speed signed on, she can take advantage here and try to wire them.
$ 7.00 WPS 13 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Ex 8, 13 w/ 4, 7, 8, 13 Cost $ 18.00
Race 9:
(8) MORE LIKE IT showed some life first out off the claim posting a high number for this level. With the addition of Irad and the slight cut back to 7F, this guy can take them a long way. I prefer his younger brother (5) HALPERT. It’s rare that we have brothers in the same race and I like them both. Halpert drops a little but more importantly stretches out. His bad habits at the start, usually leaves him with too much to do when going shorter. Now he gets to stretch his legs and the wide turn will help. Davis fits his style of stalking and coming late. I’m all in at 12:1ML. With the rail draw, Saez will likely go with (1) ELUSIVE EDGE. His best races have come when he’s up close early. (6) KING JAMES will look to score from off the pace. He gets Jose to help weave his way through the lane. He meets NW2L for the first time as well.
