With the postponement of racing in NY until tomorrow, we thought we had some time in the morning to look at the races down in south Florida. We are attacking a bit differently today with myself focusing in on the early pick 5 and Big Pete closing the card with a late pick 3. Big Pete also had a strong opinion for race 5 in this race, so will be including that as well. Good luck to everyone on this Superbowl Sunday; let's cash some tickets!
Little Pete's Early $0.50 Pick 5:
R1: 1, 7, 8
R2: 5
R3: 3, 9, 11
R4: 1, 3, 6
R5: 2, 3, 8
Cost: $40.50
Big Pete's Late $0.50 Pick 3:
R9: 1, 6, 7
R10: 2, 5, 6, 7
R11: 2, 3, 4, 5
Cost: $24.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 5:
Most of the focus will be on (2) Valluna and (3) Miahsolomiah as Delgado sends out an uncoupled entry. On the surface switch, I’ll try to get (8) ILL WILL in the winners circle. She’s a Palace Malice so dirt shouldn’t matter and Matty G didn’t mind the moisture. This will be the easiest field she met to date so I have to take a shot here at the current ML odds.

Little Pete's Early Pick 5:
Race 1:
I think Irad is going to take the first two races in here, so my top pick in this one is going to be (1) Julie Bird has the post position and the speed to find the early lead. The surface switch just make me a little nervous, but I think this horse will be able to handle it. (7) Pretzel hasn't been anything special on the track, but I think with the moisture in the ground and early speed this horse may be able to workout a trip. The workouts also look good leading into this one. (8) Very Savvy will be my last play and I think a very dangerous horse from the outside to close strongly. I think Sayas will be able to sit off the rail around the turn and be able to cleanly run by tiring horses.
$3.00 WPS 1 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 1,7,8 Cost: $12.00
Race 2:
A stand needs to be taken in some legs when constructing a mult-race play and this is the race for me. I like Irad to handle this field well and be able to get us to the next race aboard (5) Just Like Mike. This horse has steadily improved each race and although has not hit the board yet I think that is more due to the company he is running with. I think this field is vulnerable for early speed and Irad will not mess around in this one with an off track.
$3.00 WPS 5 Cost: $9.00
Race 3:
We are scratched down to four in this one and everything is telling me to hit the ALL button, but I am not a fan of the (1) Smirkotch. I think (9) Gypsy Wife will be the deserving favorite and the (11) Stormy Derby Day has the pedigree to run well on this off track. I also just cannot leave the best jockey in the world off of my ticket with only four horses going, so a must play for me is (3) JimmysSmokedCarrot.
$3.00 WPS 9 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 3,9,11 Cost: $12.00
Race 4:
(1) Kentucky Pride I think is going to be a dangerous horse in here and going to be my top pick. This horse has traveled a lot in her short career and I think a second time out on the Gulfstream track will be a winning one. (3) Elliereeseaston is fresh off a win and claim from the Sano barn and looks to be in great form to run a big closing race in this one. (6) Heart of God from the outside will be able to break free from mud getting thrown in here face and Jose will be aggressive with positioning early, which could equate to a winning race.
$3.00 WPS 1 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 1,3,6 Cost: $12.00
Race 5:
I was actually on the same horses as Big Pete in this one and love the (2) Valluna and (3) MiahSoloMiah. I think that these two horses will be just a bit too strong for the field and could run away with it. I actually really like the (8) Ill Will to run a big stalking race in this one with Victor Lebron aboard. I do think the inside horses are stronger, but this race could be a late surging horse to win it type of race.
$3.00 WPS 3 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 2,3,8 Cost: $12.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 9:
The first turn comes up quick at Gulf so Jose should get decent position for (1) OBLIGATORY. Mott sent some runners down South as he’s been hitting the board over 50% of the time. This Curlin stretches out today and her works show some bullets. She looks strong to me. (7) PRECIPITATE is the other Juddmonte and it’s Brown/Irad. She too wants more ground and showed speed last time which is always dangerous. (4) FRONT STEET is a Street Sense so any left over moisture will help carry this gal farther. She stretched out nicely last time and almost held on.
$7.00 WPS 1 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 1,7 w/ 1,4,6,7 Cost: $18.00
Race 10:
Saez gave (6) ALL AROUND a test drive last month and liked what he saw. They team up again with some speed up front to stalk. They should make it interesting close to home. (7) WHAT’S TO BLAME is very consistent and transferred nicely to the dirt. Irad returns for a Re-Pete. Favorite (2) RESERVENOTATTAINED is the one to beat as he drops slightly after two blowout wins. That’s not the usual move so we’ll try to beat him. (5) CREA’S BKLYN LAW had a good year down South and will be entering the picture late.
$7.00 WPS 6 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 6,7 w/ 2,5,6,7 Cost: $18.00
Race 11:
Both (3) ABIDING STAR and (5) GOLDEN DECISION drop down a few levels and get the jocks that are winning many down there. Star may try to steal it and Golden should stalk him until the stretch. (2) TIL THE END has been facing better as well but most of his success has been with state breds. He gets Irad today so that changes everything. (4) DONJI is usually more competitive than he should last time. Maybe he just took the afternoon off that day. Looking for him to rebound here today.
