We talked it over and decided to do a multi-course play on this Saturday afternoon. Big Pete had already completed his Gulfstream play, and I caught sight of the races going down in Kentucky and could not stay away. I am going to focus in on a pick 5 play for races 7-11 at Churchill, and Big Pete will be providing the late pick 3 at Gulfstream. We will each have vertical plays in each of these races to hedge the ticket a bit. If you have any insights to any of these races that we may not have touched upon, then please let us know on Twitter (@PetesPicks1) and we can further discuss. GOOD LUCK.

Little Pete's Churchill Spot Pick 4:

Race 7:

Long layoffs are expected with the pandemic shutting down almost all race courses country wide, but it will be interesting to see how the horses perform first time out off of that. I landed on two fillies in this race to beat the boys. (4) Dunbar Road is a must play here with pedigree and if the forecast delivers a little wetness to the track that is even better. Workouts leading in show this horse should be live from the gate and the distance is where this horse is most dangerous. I also like (6) Vault in this one to run a big race. First time out from an extended layoff and she had a bumped start and tough trip, and still had a sustained run. I anticipate a much better break and a great stretch run on this field. I will include (8) She's A Julie for my exacta play; who should look to get to the early lead right out of the gate and try and wire the field. I just prefer the girls to be in a good closing position to pass this horse late. I also will include (2) Chocolate Kisses and (5) Another Broad for the exacta, as these horses should be charging late but come up short to the girls.

$4.00 WPS 6 Cost: $12.00

$2.00 Ex 4,6 w/ 2,4,5,6,8 Cost: $16.00

Race 8:

I landed on four horses in this one with my top selection being the (9) Sharing. This horse has already won at three different tracks with four career starts; which is a great stat. This horse has a very good chance to make it four courses with a W. Manny is an excellent grass rider and will have this horse in the perfect position to let this horse stretch it out in what should be a fast race. (14) Alms is undefeated in her career and has the speed master Paco Lopez aboard. Should anticipate an aggressive ride from Paco and challenge these other horses to keep up. (2) Abscond has lost to (9) Sharing in her short career already, but the speed this horse has should make for a good stretch run. (7) Outburst wants a fast pace and will definitely be getting it, and with the hall of famer Castellano aboard you know the trip will be set up perfectly.

$2.00 Ex 9,14 w/ 2,7,9,14 Cost: $12.00

Race 9:

There is a ton of speed in this race which makes this race relatively wide open to me. I like the favorite, (8) Owendale, who will only benefit from the distance relief and be able to show off his speed. I also like (3) Global Campaign in this one to have a nice sustained ride by Ortiz and be in a good position to chase the leaders down late to take this one. I also thought the same for (7) Silver Dust and (9) Extrordinary Jerry who both have bullet workouts coming in and could be sitting right behind the fast pace. I am also going to include the (6) Backyard Heaven who loves quick fractions and the workouts make me lean towards this horse being ready to roll first time out off of the extended layoff.

$2.00 Ex 3,8 w/ 3,6,7,8,9 Cost: $16.00

Race 10:

(10) Maxfield is a horse that I just fell in love with and think this is his race to lose. The workouts are fantastic and this horse hasn't run in to a field that he can't beat (Albeit he only has two career starts). I like other horses in this one, but I love (10) Maxfield and trust Jose to get this one. Will throw some other horses at the board for second to hope to get a price.

$2.00 Ex 10 w/ 2,6,9,11,12 Cost: $10.00

Race 11:

I like Johnnie V to wire this field with (9) Smooth Like Strait and close out our ticket. This horse has been caught in previous races with fantastic mile fractions, and I see this horse getting to the lead early and being able to rest a bit more to have enough left in the tank to take this one. I with hedge a bit with (5) Field Pass who is coming in winning two in a row and should be close enough to the lead to make a late run at it.

$2.00 Ex 5,9 w/ 2,5,6,9,10 Cost: $16.00

Big Pete's Gulfstream Late Pick 3:

Race 9:

(7) FRONT LOADED has been consistent so far this year. Just missed last time at this level but that was on sloppy footing. His best races appear to be just over the 6F, so I’m expect him to put in another solid run at this 7F distance. He was beaten by (1) MALIBU MAX when they met back in Feb but that’s the last time we’ve seen Max. He hasn’t seen the winner’s circle for quite some time, but drops today. To me, it looks like now or never for this Pletcher runner today. The last time we saw (5) MY FRIEND FLAVIN at Gulf, he came 1st and 2nd in two races. Maybe the track can resurrect his career. We’ll use at a price.

$7.00 WPS 7 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 1,7 w/ 1,5,7 Cost: $12.00

Race 10:

I’m reading this 5F sprint as an advantage for the closers. (5) COOP TRIES HARDER has found a home now sprinting on the grass. Since he switched surfaces last year, he’s put together five good ones just missing in his last. Stalks and catches them late today. The other two I’ll use will be coming from the clouds to try and snag this. (3) MAI TY ONE ON and (7) WILE E PEYOTE will not get a lot of support at the windows but will get a nice setup to make some noise through the stretch.

$7.00 WPS 5 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 3,5 w/ 3,4,5,7 Cost: $18.00

Race 11:

Both (3) GHOSTLY BEAUTY and (9) YOLANDA’S PRIDE take the necessary drop to make them the main players here. Yolanda will try to steal it and Ghostly will stalk and try to scare her late. I’ll also use the two outside runners. (11) LOOKINLIKEAQUEEN has a couple of wins against this level and Vasquez returns. The move back in with Florida breds is what put this one on top for me. (12) KEY BISCAYNE kicked in late to break her maiden last time and may have just figured out this game. Tries the turf again.

$7.00 WPS 11 Cost: $21.00

$3.00 Ex 3,11 w/ 3,9,11,12 Cost: $18.00
