Little Pete's Derby Pick:
(2) Verifying
I have been a big fan of Forte since seeing him dominate in the Hopeful at Saratoga this summer and I been waiting for this first Saturday in May. A little sad to hear the news this morning but this is a tough game that we love and play and the show must go on. Cox has four and two will take some money. (2) VERIFYING did everything right but just couldn't hold on late in the Blue Grass. He has speed to stay close and will likely get the jump on the closers. His dad did it a few years ago and this guy should only improve off that effort. I'm looking fo him to turn the table on Tapit Trice.
$10.00 WIN 2 Cost: $ 10.00
$3.00 Ex 2 w/ 3, 5, 6, 8, 11, 17 Cost: $ 18.00
Big Pete's Derby Pick:
( 5 ) Tapit Trice
Pletcher still has a major contender in the Derby even with the scratch of Forte. (5) TAPIT TRICE and (2) Verifying both put on a show in the Blue Grass and I'm expecting the same today. The price will be lower now that his stable mates out but he knows how to wins. Not many horses can handle this 10F distance, so I look first at the sires that were proven at this distance. Tapit certainly passes that test. The post shouldn't be an issue as he likes to stalk early and I'll rely on Saez to find some holes to punch through. With Dinkirk underneath, this guy figures to be very long winded and when the others start to tire, Trice will be just getting started. I'm interested in the Japan runner (22) Mandarin Hero a little bit. as he had some trouble in two spots during the SA Derby and still almost got there. (14) Angel Of Empire keeps proven everyone wrong and blew away the Arkansas Derby field. (23) King Russell got up for 2nd behind Angel and is the wise guy pick to hit the board here.
$ 10.00 WPS 5 Cost: $ 30.00
$ 3.00 Ex 2, 5 w/ 2, 5, 14, 22, 23 Cost: $ 24.00
BONUS PICK: Dylan's Derby Pick:
(3) Two Phil's
I promised to allow a good friend, Dylan, to publish his derby pick this year after I told him how ridiculous he was to place a $50.00 bet on Rich Strike to win last year.. There are some who would believe that he has a clue as to what he is doing at the betting window and then there logical people; I KID. Now to his selection:
This year, I landed (3) Two Phil's for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, I have a 5 year old cat with quite a selection of collar bow ties named Phil. Secondly, two Phil me up is a clever slogan for any taco stand and I think that will translate well to the mile and a quarter distance. Lastly, I believe having a jockey with a last name of Loveberry sets this horse apart from his foes. There are no other horses in this race that can claim that they have LOVE on their side (or back).
