Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful moms out there, especially ours (Great people). We are looking to close out this weekend with a pair of cashed tickets. We will be attacking a pair of pick 3 plays that covers the pick 6 sequence. I will be locked into races 4-6 and Big Pete will close the card with races 7-9. We also will have our "Play of the Day" on a race on the card we would like to try and improve the bankroll on. GOOD LUCK.
Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:
R4: 1, 4, 7
R5: 1, 3, 7
R6: 2, 3, 4, 9
Cost: $36.00
Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:
R7: 2, 5, 9
R8: 1, 3, 5
R9: 1, 5, 7, 10
Cost: $36.00
Little Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 1:
Wesley Ward has some speed firsters in here that look pretty good on paper, but the (7) Yukio is the one that caught my eye. The Dam side has produced winners first time out in these turf sprints. I think that with this small field it will turn into an early pace battle and that benefits Cancel to close strongly down the stretch. I think it is worth a try at the morning line post and try and play into race 2.
$7.00 WIN 7 Cost: $7.00
$2.00 Double 7 w/ 1,3,7 Cost: $6.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 3:
(5) FLAT AWESOME JENNY has improved in each of her 2021 races. She tried sprinting last time and made a nice run to get 2nd. This Flat Out wants a little more distance that she gets it today and is fresh off the claim. McCarthy gets the call again as he’s familiar with her. New scenery sometimes makes the difference for these mares.
(2) OK Honey and (6) Daria’s Angel to fill in the blanks underneath.
$ 7.00 WPS 5 Cost $ 21.00
$ 7.00 Exacta 5 w/ 2, 6 Cost $ 14.00
We’ll also use Flat Awesome Jenny in R3 and try to cash in on a DAILY DOUBLE play in the 4th.
(4) Poppy Flower and (7) Constitution Gal look solid in the 4th
$ 7.00 Double 5 w/ 4, 7 Cost $ 14.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 4:
The two Wesley Ward horses are a must play to survive the first leg. Both of these horses ran winning races first time out and we should only expect improvement. Ward will instruct the Ortiz brothers to have these horses forwardly placed and both could run away with it. My top selection, however, is going to be the(7) Constitution Gal. This horse sold for $195K and Casse has this horse prepped for this one. I think Saez will not mess around early as it is apparent what the Ward horses will be trying to do. I think this horse is going to run a winning race.
$5.00 WPS 7 Cost: $15.00
$2.00 Ex Box 1,4,7 Cost: $12.00
Race 5:
(7) Saburai looks to be much the best on paper in this claiming race and should be considered for a single possibility. I am going to hedge our play a bit by including both (1) Micromillion and (3) Positive Skew.. Both of these horses are exiting the same race in which I liked their performance rolling into this one. (1) Micromillion had some saddle issue which strongly affected the outcome of the race. The switch to Saez and the inside post position makes me pull the trigger on this one to sit on the rail and save ground throughout. (3) Positive Skew is the closer I like in here to benefit from some horses battling for the front.
$3.00 Ex Box 1,3,7 Cost: $18.00
Race 6:
(3) Winners Laugh and (4) Brilliant Brooks have the Ortiz brothers aboard and look to be must plays in here. I think that (3) Winners Laugh will find the lead and be a tough catch late. (4) Brilliant Brooks will run a similar race in here, but most likely rate the lead and wait for the opportunity to pass come stretch drive. I am also playing (2) Devils Code to run that similar style in here under Jose Lezcano. I think this 20/1 horse is a great play in here to improve from the poor ride last time out and have a say come stretch drive. (9) Schokolade is my last play from the Bill Mott barn. This horse is finally getting a fast track and should be able to show off some early speed in here. This horse I think will be close to post time favorite numbers at 3/1 and a must play in here.
$3.00 WPS 2 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 2,3 w/ 2,3,4,9 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 4,9 w/ 2,3,4,9 Cost: $6.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 7:
(2) BODECREAM will likely go off the favorite as he’s been knocking on the door at this level and this field came up a little short of talent. Saez will let Star go and and try to pick him up late. The other Maker interests me a little more though. (5) CHOCALATE BAR is off to a good start in 2021 after only one win last year. The 1M is just right for this Cairo Prince and he reunites with Jose. We’re expecting a big run from him today. (9) IDENTITY POLITICS could be dangerous for both. Brown switched him to the grass last summer for the first time and I think he liked it. We haven’t seen him since is the only draw back but Irad returns and two bullets jump off the page.
$7.00 WPS 5 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 5,9 w/ 2,5,7,9 Cost: $18.00
Race 8:
(1) BEREN tried G3 last time and may have been compromised by the start. He ships in again and may have found the right group. Franco will give it another try as Reid worked him fast on May 1st. Clean break may be all he needs. He’ll likely have to catch the new and improved (5) AMERICAN GENTLEMAN. He has a couple of races this year that make him a player today. Saez helps and the cut back to 6F should work in their favor.
(3) RODERICK is capable of running a big one but he’s been to inconsistent. I’ll use defensively and try to beat him. (4) DOUBLEOSEVEN is not fast enough to keep up with this group but when the others start to fad, he can offer value underneath.
$7.00 WPS 5 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 1,5 w/ 1,3,4,5 Cost: $18.00
Race 9:
(5) NO PAYNE needs grass and gets it today. She couldn’t hold on in Nov when last scene on the turf. Rosario sticks around for this and will be coming late. Here’s another front runner in the sequence for Saez to control. He jumps on (7) SOCIAL WHIRL who will try to take this group all the way. Gets L1 and is bred for turf. (10) CAUMSETT is likely to get lost in the betting and that’s where I’ll land. She wasn’t far from No Payne, then, tried to go long. The move back to turf and the 6F is a great fit for this gal. We should get all of the 8:1 ML and the wide Belmont turn will help navigate a trip from the outside post. (1) RUNAWAY RUMOUR is a firster from Flintshire. He hasn’t clicked yet in the barn but this filly is out of an Elusive Quality mare and that one produces turf sprinters all the time. There must be chatter for this filly as she’s assigned a 9/2 ML.
