Belmont racing on this chilly Thursday and we are looking to take down a pair of pick 3 plays that covers the pick 6 sequence. We are going to look to gather some momentum to carry into the weekend and today's card looks to be a good one. I am going to be focused on races 4-6 and Big Pete will be closing with races 7-9. We also will have our "Play of the Day" on a race we would like to try and improve the bankroll on. We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.
Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:
R4: 6, 7, 8
R5: 1, 3, 6, 7
R6: 2, 4, 9, 10
Cost: $48.00
Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:
R7: 3, 4, 6, 8
R8: 2, 4, 7
R9: 4, 5, 7, 11
Cost: $48.00
Little Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 3:
Todd Pletcher stretching horses out after a maiden breaker is dangerous. (4) Great Workout has a great workout coming in as well and going to trust this horse against winners for the first time. I think that Irad will be able to sit on the rail throughout and this horse will be poised for a convincing stretch drive. Will pair with the field in here and see if we can catch a price for second.
$5.00 WPS 4 Cost: $15.00
$3.00 Ex 4 w/ 1,2,3,5,6 Cost: $15.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 1:
Likely favorite (7) UP SEVENTYFOUR tussled with a sharp Easy to Bless last time but was well clear of Tap The Barrel who finished 4th. She took a bad step coming out of the gate and rushed up that day. The outside draw and the aggressive Carmouche should spell wire to wire for this gal.
$ 7.00 WPS 7 Cost $ 21.00
$ 7.00 Exacta 7 w/ 2, 3 Cost $ 14.00
We’ll also use Up Seventyfour in R1 and try to cash in on a DAILY DOUBLE play.
(3) Back Channel and (6) Big City Momma look solid in the 2nd
$ 7.00 Double 7 w/ 3, 4 Cost $ 14.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 4:
This looks to be a heavy favorite first leg of the PK3 sequence. (8) Miss Alex gets the rider and getting some distance relief. The horse should find a nice position early to save some ground around the turn and have a say come stretch drive. (7) Tiny Magoo is the other favorite in here who has shown ability on an off track and will be forwardly placed in here. Will be tough for the competitors to catch this horse late. My last play is going to be (6) Jordy Can Tap who I like to close strongly against this field and if we can get an early battle for up front then this price could be interesting.
$3.00 Ex Box 6,7,8 Cost: $18.00
Race 5:
My top pick in here is going to be (7) Millean. I think this horse loves this distance and will be the strongest horse come stretch drive. I think there is enough pace in here to make this horse even more viable. (6) Dangerous Edge is another play that I think will be placed well throughout and have a say come stretch drive. (3) Advance Notice is going to be on the lead and just can't leave this horse off my ticket with a possibly wire to wire situation. Last play will be the (1) Moonlight Now who is getting a nice rail position and can navigate a trip in here to have a say come stretch drive.
$3.00 WPS 7 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 6,7 w/ 1,3,6,7 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 1,3 w/ 1,3,6,7 Cost: $6.00
Race 6:
My top pick in here is going to be (4) Prayer Book who gets the aggressive Saez aboard and this horse is going to be on the lead early. I think that this horse will be able to dictate fractions and the head start come stretch drive will be tough to make up late. (2) Summer Retreat is the Clement horse that I am going to invest in. I think that Jose Ortiz will be able to find an early rail position and save ground throughout. This marathon race will be about trips and this horse is poised to get a great ride. (9) Connagh's Quay will enjoy the distance and a must play for me with the connections. This horse will be fanned out wide come stretch drive and you should always trust Irad Ortiz to get the job done. Last play will be (10) Proven Innocent who I think could get overlooked on the tote board. I think this horse has been placed too far back early and will get a nice placement by Jose Lezcano early in here. I think that makes a big difference and could potentially make this horse a strong play late.
$3.00 WPS 4 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 2,4 w/ 2,4,9,10 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 9,10 w/ 2,4,9,10 Cost: $6.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 7:
What do you do with (4) BABY BOSS? I normally toss these favorites as she looks to be damaged goods on the big drop. However, Atras is having a meet and Franco sticks. I’ll use her defensively with the lack of speed entered and the scratch of Madera. (8) AWESOME ALANA tailed off some this winter but has shown some form reversal in both her 3rd place finishes recently. The switch to Saez indicates we’re all business today. (3) DUBLINORNOTHIN has a few races in her pp’s that would easily win this if she can Re-Pete any of them. Irad and Joseph Jr are always a dangerous combo so we’ll include (6) MIDTOWN ROSE defensively as well.
$7.00 WPS 8 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 4,8 w/ 3,4,6,8 Cost: $18.00
Race 8:
(4) SILKY BLUE has beaten several in here and is the deserving favorite. If she runs here races, she’ll be tough to beat. There are two others that I want though. (2) DANCINGWTHDAFFODL woke up last time and switches to Jr. Her last win came on this course last fall and sprinting is what she wants to do. She’ll get first jump from mid pack. I’ll lean more on (7) PURRAGEOUS DYNA to pass them all. Both her turf outings last year were against better. The other races were on dirt. She needs grass and the swift breeze last week should have her on her toes. Javier takes over and moves back in against fellow NY State Breds.
$7.00 WPS 7 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 4,7 w/ 2,4,7 Cost: $12.00
Race 9
(4) ZERENIA has been consistent and sprinting on the grass seems to be her thing. She tries winners today but Saez can help her overcome that. (7) AVA K’S GIRL ran a big one in Nov, then took the winter off. Her returned was an expected dull effort but the switch to Franco here should indicate she’s ready to go. (11) TOWERING GAZE has had some success on this course and Irad sticks around for the night cap. She can stalk and come with a late kick to close it out. (5) DAY’S HUMOR will likely play the role of pace setter as it came up light in that category. The first two furlongs will be the key if they leave her alone. First time on the turf for this Carpe Diem and she just might like it.
