Rainy day at Belmont, but we still are looking to take down some nice pools. We will be attacking a pair of pick 3 plays that covers the pick 6 sequence. I will be focused on races 5-7 and Big Pete will close the card down on races 8-10. We also will have our "Play of the Day" on a race we would like to try and improve our bankroll on. GOOD LUCK.
Little Pete's $ 1.00 Spot Pick 3:
R5: 1, 5, 7, 11
R6: 1, 6, 7
R7: 3, 4, 6, 16
Cost: $48.00
Big Pete's $ 1.00 Late Pick 3:
R8: 5, 7, 9
R9: 5, 6, 8, 9
R10: 8, 10, 13, 14
Cost: $48.00
Little Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 1:
I will be looking to beat the Wesley Ward/Johnny V horse in here with (7) No Mi Culpa. I think Irad will be able to sit behind a fast early pace and be able to make up ground late against tiring horses in the front. I think the 5/1 odds will come -down in here with the scratches, but I like the thought of this horse running down the field late in here.
$5.00 WPS 7 Cost: $15.00
$3.00 Ex 7 w/ 1,6,8,9,10 Cost: $15.00
Big Pete's "Play of the Day":
Race 2:
(4) O SHEA CAN U SEE has been sprinting most of his career. He stretches out today and we’re looking for Curlin to help him get there. He was claimed three back and has posted to decent closing efforts against a better for this level. The wet track won’t be an issue and the one turn will help. He’ll have to hold off the 8yr Playwright, but he should get first jump on that one.
$ 7.00 WPS 4 Cost $ 21.00
$ 3.00 Exacta Box 1, 4, 5 Cost $ 18.00
We’ll also try to collect on a Daily Double play with O Shea Can U See and use (3) Dust Devil and (4) First Captain in the 3rd.
$ 7.00 Double 4 w/ 3, 4 Cost $ 14.00
Little Pete's Spot Pick 3:
Race 5:
(1A) She's a Black Belt looks to perform best with some moisture in the ground and should be forwardly placed in here. I will include this horse in case the fractions are favorable and can sustain a big run in here. (5) Risk Model will be stalking the lead early in here and wait for the right opportunity to fan out wide and make a run towards the wire; I trust Rosario to time it well. (7) Halo City is another horse that I really like in here to excel with the muddy surface. This horse will be the strongest late and could be the one who benefits the most from the early speed. (11) Summer Brew is my last play here who is going to be sent to the lead and not look back. Manny is going to be aggressive in here and I always like to invest in a horse I have a good feeling on what the tactic will be.
$3.00 WPS 7 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 5,7 w/ 1,5,7,11 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 1,11 w/ 1,5,7,11 Cost: $6.00
Race 6:
I really like (7) Power Up Paynter in this one even with the extended time off. This horse has some nice performances on an off track and is training extremely well coming into this one. I think Lezcano/Rice will be a tough beat in here. (6) Bronx Bomber also looks good in here with Irad getting the mount. This horse should break well from the gate and be on the lead or stalking right behind it. Irad knows how to place horses to give them the best chance to win around the turn and trusting him when he has a nice horse is always a good investment to me. Last play will be (1) Bears Mafia who should get back to previous form and find a nice early position close to the rail and be much more of a foe in this one with the speed.
$3.00 WPS 7 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex Box 1,6,7 Cost: $12.00
Race 7:
I am going to include the Chad Brown horse for coverage, as I am not in love with this horse; (4) Cease and Desist. I will trust this horse taking an extended break from racing and remaining at similar class. Then I will look to three firsters that I like. (3) Evoking has some bullet workouts leading in and the speed rider in Saez. This horse should be forwardly placed and could have enough left late to possibly hold on. I really like (6) Blue Times in here as well with Kendrick running a similar front running style of race. This horse should be able to handle some moisture in the ground and run at a decent price. Last play will be (16) Sand and Sea who drew into this one from the outside and looks to be poised to run an impressive debut on a sloppy track.
$3.00 WPS 6 Cost: $9.00
$2.00 Ex 6,16 w/ 3,4,6,16 Cost: $12.00
$1.00 Ex 3,4 w/ 3,4,6,16 Cost: $6.00
Big Pete's Late Pick 3:
Race 8:
(9) MYSTIC NIGHT is getting all the attention after his big number back in March. He faces better animals today and needs his A game to tackle these. (2) GIROLAMO’S ATTACH has been going shorter for many of his races and now stretches to 9F. It’s one turn though, so I don’t think it affects guy. His last race was his best to date and picks up Irad for the ride. I’m all over (7) DOUBLY BLESSED in this one. This Empire Maker has turned it around this year with four strong outing. He’s 2 for 2 on the off and gets a huge rider switch to the hot Saez. The one danger I see is the closer (5) CREED. He was beaten by Doubly last time but his two Big Sandy runs last year make him a contender.
$7.00 WPS 7 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 5,7 w/ 2,5,7,9 Cost: $18.00
Race 9:
(5) SAINTHOOD seems better fit for dirt/slop so this off the turf stakes works for him. I'll key on the Tonalist colt at this 9F distance. (9) THE REDS three best races have come at this distance and the wet track won't be an issue. (6) MINUTEMAN could be dangerous on the front end. Saez is likely to go and put them to sleep. (8) SAFE CONDUCT ran well on turf but is bred to handle this surface. He'll look to get first jump on Minuteman and try to hold off the closers.
$7.00 WPS 9 Cost: $21.00
$3.00 Ex 5, 9 w/ 5, 6, 8, 9 Cost: $18.00
Race 10:
(10) SAVEDBYTHEBELLE isn’t listed as a MTO, but clearly wants it. This Super Saver will like the off and the slight class relief. We’ll use three of the MTO’s and hopefully the 4th one doesn’t beat us. (14) AMITY ISLAND jogged in the mud to break her maiden and ran better next time out but settled for 2nd. Fresh off the claim for this. (8) KERIK appears a little cheap but Noda has been hitting and they attract Irad. The biggest taut is that she is out of a Birdstone mare so the off track should move her up. (13) MAKE OR BREAK has two strong 2nd place finishes and sloppy tracks. If anything, she likes to hit the board.
