Aqueduct: Wood Memorial Day Saturday, 4/8, Plays

Aqueducts biggest day of the meet is today as the 3yr colts square off in the Wood Memorial. Eleven races on this perfect weather day for racing. I will be condensing my plays down to just the number and attacking the early double (Races 1 & 2) and a spot pick 3 (Races 6-8). Big Pete will attack his "Play of the Day" and the late pick 3 (Races 9-11 ). We appreciate you taking a look at this write-up and GOOD LUCK.

Big Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 3:

A talented group of 3yr fillies go 9F in the Gazelle (G3). Two from Brown and another two from Pletcher and I’ll try to beat them all with the Cox runner (1) CAPELLA. She gets a cozy spot on the rail and is the potential speed. If she can settle in stride down the back stretch, they will have a tough time getting by turning for home. Look for Carmouche to be aggressive early and set up shop.

I’ll use with (2) Gambling Girl and (5) Occult

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 9:

We will try to get by with the two Brown runners to kick off this late Pk3. The last two in this sequence are tough and we’ll spread out in 10th & 11th. (2) EXPAND THE MAP has two 2nd’s and a win at this 1M distance and picks up the hot Franco. She’s taken a ton of money in all 5 starts with only one picture taken, Expecting big things this year as she’s bred to be a good one. Her stable mate, (6) VERONICA GREENE will give her a run. She comes off a layoff but has run well in all her starts. She couldn’t hold off two good ones in the Winter Memories back in November as she gets ready for her 2023 debut.

Race 10:

This NYS sprint on the grass looks wide open. I’ll spread out here with five. (11) WEEKEND RAGS switches to turf and this Street Boss will like it. (4) LAKESIDE GETAWAY gets back to sprinting. (5) STRICTLY TABOO is the filly to beat as she ran a nice figure going shorter and will be coming late. (7) RED HOT CHICK ran big when switched to the lawn last fall. She comes off the bench for Maker. I will put a little more money on (8) GALATRONA in this one. This Get Stormy debut against a decent bunch as the winner is now stakes placed. She took money in that debut and gets L1 today to start her 2023 campaign.

Race 11:

Pletcher is loaded for this Wood Memorial today and two of them haven’t won a race yet. (1) DREAMLIKE draws the rail and you would think is Jose’s choice from the three. This Gun Runner looks to be getting better with each start and figures to save ground for the 9F. (9) CRUPI has danced with the big boys and has two place finishes against them. He ran ok despite falling too far back against the Derby favorite. Then there’s the other Classic Empire, (11) CLASSIC CATCH. He can run all day but McCarthy will need to save some ground somewhere. The first turn comes quick so the post doesn’t help. I prefer the other Cox (5) SLIP MAHONEY. He contiues to improve and is built for two turns. He should get first jump and they will have to run him down.
