Big Pete's "Play of the Day":

Race 4:

I don't trust Ashaar in this spot as he takes a nose dive to this 8k claimer. Damaged goods is worth a shot aganst. The 8yr old, (5) NOBLE THOUGHT did a little running last time and now gets an upgrade to Franco. They figure to sit mid pack and sustain his pace. It may look like he is gaining on them through the stretch but it more likely that the others will be backing up to him.

Big Pete's Late Pick 3:

Race 6:

(2) OXANA drops slightly for this and is working ok at Belmont. If she Re-Petes her last race, she’ll be a handful. There’s not a lot of other options for me so if your looking to cut down your bankroll, this may be the race. She will be short so I’ll try to beat her with the more experienced rival (5) ROYAL MEGHAN. If they both run their A game, Oxana wins easy. But, there are other speeds in here and I’m guessing Franco will sit chilly early and try to pass them all late. She offers decent odds for this short field.

Race 7:

NW2L runners go at it for 25k. (5) RAVEN ROCKS shipped out to Western NY and was a bust coming off a long layoff. Englehart has a few works in her now so I’m expecting a better showing this time out. The other NY Bred that like is (6) ERNIE BANKER. He too came off a layoff and ran just ok but took money that day. Cancel takes the mount and they figure to get a nice set for his closing kick. (3) HANGAR ONE ran well first time out for DiPrima against this level. They will try to scoot away coming into the stretch and try to hold on.

Race 8:

There seems to be enough speed in here to make the stalkers and closers my pick. (4 CHASING CARA likes to sit right behind the front runners and try to gain through the stretch. She doesn’t have much punch late so she’ll need them to back up into her. Sometimes, that’s enough. Connections were trying to make (10) CINDERELLA’S CAUSE a turf horse but her best two races are on dirt. She too can stalk and let the speed to her inside go at it early. The 6.5F gives her a chance to get close to the rail down the backstretch and save ground. (5) MOSIENKO is the interesting one to me. She was competitive earlier this year and then tailed off this summer. Two strong works and a decent 2nd sandwiched in between should have this gal on her toes. Her lone win this year came on this surface so I can’t pass up this 12:1 ML.
